Must See Movie: Les Misérables
Les Misérables is the 2012 British musical drama film adaptation of the classic musical of the same name by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, which in turn was based on the 1862 French novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. Directed by Tom Hooper, known for directing the award-winning film The King’s Speech, and features a star-studded cast the likes of Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, and others.
Set in 19th century France, in the year 1815, Les Misérables follows the story of ex-prisoner Jean Valjean (Jackman) on the run from prison guard Javert (Crowe), who is pursuing Valjean for breaking his parole. Valjean turns his life around in a small town, and becomes mayor and the owner of a factory. He ends up taking on the responsibility of his ex-factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter Cosette when she dies, resulting in both of their lives changing forever.
