Have you already discovered the addictive powers of the Funko Pop! Vinyl figures? Many merch collectors and superheroes, be it in the real world or in the virtual one, have already fallen for these adorable little action figures with enlarged heads. Even The Rolling Stone has recently picked up on them (see here)! Although the figures are mostly uniform in size and style, they all maintain the traits that make their ‘real-life’ pop culture counterparts so characteristic and there are hundreds of unique film and game characters to choose from. Because we thought you might want to be kept up-to-date on all of Funko’s latest releases, we compiled a list of 5 of our favourite new Pop! Vinyl figures that are coming out soon.
After the massive success of Pop! Vinyl figures from Disney’s Frozen, The Little Mermaid and Big Hero 6, it comes as no surprise that Funko has also decided to launch the adorable little Pop! figures of Tiana and Naveen from The Princess and the Frog. The 2009 Disney classic is the predecessor of films like Frozen and Tangled and gives a modern twist to a classic fairy tale. It finally features the first black Disney heroine (Tiana), who dreams of having her own restaurant in jazzy New Orleans and makes the mistake of kissing a talking frog (Naveen). This Pop! Vinyl figure by Funko shows Tiana in her ball gown just before she meets the frog Naveen and promises to be a major hit with kids and grown-ups alike.
Write the 10th of November in your diaries, everyone! Why? Because that’s when Fallout 4 is released! Bethesda’s gameplay video at E3 looked extremely promising and to follow up on the excitement, we can now proudly announce we’re selling a couple of amazing Fallout Funko Pop! Vinyl figures at Zavvi to get you all steamed up! We’re especially fond of this Brotherhood of Steel figure. It’s highly detailed, a little bit creepy, and stands about 3 ¾ inches tall. For those that don’t know, the Brotherhood of Steel consists of remnants of the American military and government in the post-Apocalyptic world you play in in Fallout. They are your main assistants in the battle against the super mutants and provide you with the most advanced weaponry such as supercomputers and cybernetics. Above all, one will make an extremely cool mascot next to your console.
Good news for all the Buffy fans out there! This exclusive, limited edition version of an injured Buffy with wooden stake is finally back in stock! This Buffy The Vampire Slayer Pop! Vinyl figure by Funko was exclusively designed for the San Diego Comic-Con in 2014, but seemed to have mysteriously disappeared from the face of the earth after that. (Devoured by the Hellmouth?). But no, of course not, Buffy has survived as always and is now being resold at Zavvi, as well as her friends Willow and Oz and frenemies Angel and Spike. Be quick though if you want to get your frail vampire hands on this, because the figure will not be re-made. And as Buffy said herself: “Seize the moment, ‘cause tomorrow you might be dead.”
Did you know the roar of the Wampa was created by recording the noises of a sea lion on top of those of an elephant? Wampas are ice creatures who first appeared in George Lucas’s Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and live on the planet of Hoth (for the Star Wars noobs, that’s where the Rebel Alliance had their secret base and suffered a terrible defeat against the Empire). They’re a bit vicious, but can look exceptionally harmless in dainty Pop! Vinyl format. What’s extra special about this exclusive figure by Funko, is that it’s almost twice the size of a regular Pop! Vinyl and that it’s flocked, meaning it feels like it has an actual fur! It has limited availability, so we recommend all Star Wars fans race their Tauntauns to the checkout as soon as possible.
Remember the good old days when Saturday mornings were sacred and filled with Hanna-Barbera shows like The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons and The Smurfs? Maybe those precious moments are no more, but luckily Funko is launching a new collection of Pop! Vinyl figures with a nod to your favourite Hanna-Barbera cartoon from the past: Wacky Races! Who doesn’t remember Muttley, the wacky sidekick of villain Dick Dastardly with his distinctive laugh. The gruesome twosome spent most episodes sabotaging the other race cars, only to be caught in their own ambushes most of the time. Both Muttley and Dick Dastardly are now transformed into two cute Pop! Vinyl action figures that will blast you back to the past and look amazing on every desk top.
