What festivals are you playing this year and what one are you looking forward to the most?
Kevin: We’re doing some far away like Summer Summit in Japan and Benicassim. We’re doing Oxygen, T and we’re doing quite a lot more what we can’t really say yet.
Alex: Summer Summit’s gonna be pretty awesome, Japan’s always crazy.
Kevin: I’m looking forward to Benicassim – there’s a swimming pool in the backstage. We get to spend the whole weekend at Benicassim so it’ll be really good, because we’ve got a pretty busy schedule we never get much time anywhere.
In 20 years time, you’re rich and famous around the world; who’d be the control freak, who’d be the recluse and who’d be the playboy?
Kevin: Sam would be the recluse, sorry Sam.
Alex: I’d be the control freak, and Kev would be the playboy.
Kevin: Yes! That’s the best one.
Alex: I’ll be sat there freaking out about the next album.
Kevin: No, about our next rock band game, suing the makers of it or something.
Who are your favourite bands of the moment?
Kevin: I really like an American band who are going to be coming on tour with us called Bad Veins who I think are really really really good, and thankfully we’ve managed to get them to come and support us.
Alex: Phoenix are fairly fresh on the UK scene..
Kevin: Since the early 90’s!
Alex: No, I mean the buzz and the album and stuff.
Kevin: There’s a lot of really good stuff at the moment. We had a band on tour with us in Ireland called Kowalski and they’ve got an EP due out which is amazing, and the band on tour with us at the moment are really good – Citadels, we managed to get them to come on tour with us which is fantastic.
Alex: That’s the good thing about playing our own shows, we can afford to bring in the bands that we like to play them with us; which gets them more exposure.
If you could be any fictional character, who would it be?
Sam: The first thing that came into my mind was the little mermaid. Can’t explain it, but that was what first came to my mind.
Kevin: I think I’d like to be James Bond or Jack Bauer. But Jack has a lot of personal problems.
Alex: I reckon James Bond does as well, you just don’t see.
Kevin: But James Bond gets the girls, Jack Bauer’s doesn’t get super hot babes every night, he just saves the world every day, gets his work done. James Bond saves the world and gets laid.
Alex: He’s hiding something I reckon, he’s got some deep seated issues.
Kevin: But he has the therapy of a beautiful woman.
Do you have any crazy fans?
Alex: There have been a lot of fans a bit in love with Sam recently, all over twitter!
Sam: Oh yeah.
Kevin: There’s this girl from America who tweeted us that she’d travelled for like a day to come see our show, because of how much she loves Sam.
Kevin: There’s not that much craziness, it’s more dedication from fans I think. There’s a girl who’s been to every show we’ve done near her, and she went to our show in Japan when we were over there. A guy the other day had every single one of our vinyls, even ones I didn’t know we had! We don’t have any mental ‘in love with you’ fans, but I don’t think that that even happens anymore. We just have really dedicated fans, it’s nice.
Do you have anything to say to fans or aspiring artists?
Kevin: Just hard work, talent doesn’t matter. You don’t need talent; you just need a good haircut and a pair of tight jeans. Don’t get too ahead of yourself and work hard at what you’re doing.
