Sony: E3 2016

Sony didn’t reveal a new console like many thought they would this year at E3, yet they did announce a variety of new games with some surprise announcements. Sony’s presentation was a lot simpler in its approach than its rivals – utilising an impressive live orchestra in a traditional theatre setting. PlayStation VR was expected to dominate the show, especially given that it launches later this year – and it did. Relive the conference here:

Sony began by showcasing dramatic gameplay demonstration of a new God of War. The footage portrayed antihero Kratos coaching a young boy in the wild. It doesn’t appear to be an official God of War title, rather a reboot or prequel to the series. It was great to see Kratos back, and the crowd certainly showed their appreciation in LA. October 25th is now a date placed firmly in every PlayStation addict’s diary. The Last Guardian finally has a release date! Sony didn’t show much new gameplay as expected, however we did see some key scenes. The seven year wait is almost complete…

Continuing, Days Gone was next up. All we’ve been told about this title is that it’s being developed by Bend Studio, the Oregon studios responsible for the Syphon Filter series from years back. View the announcement trailer below:

Gameplay of Horizon Zero Dawn, previously announced at E3 2015, was then demonstrated – it featured hunter named Aloy. This title’s release date was recently delayed  to February 28th 2017 yet we’ve been promised to learn more about this game from the Sony E3 Stand in the coming days…

In classic gaming news – Crash Bandicoot returns! Sony announced it had partnered with Activision to bring the mascot back to PlayStation. Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2, and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped will all be re-mastered and rebooted for PS4. No release dates were given, annoyingly.

The conference continued with the reveal of the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer. It was Call of Duty, but not as you know it – it’s in space! Set in its futuristic sphere, this trailer has certainly left us with more questions than answers.

Nearing the end of the conference, Hideo Kojima came onstage to reveal Death Stranding, his upcoming game project since his arrival at Sony. Met with raucous applause – very little was given away about this title. Check out the thrilling teaser below:

As if that wasn’t enough, an exclusive Spiderman title was also announced for PS4. The development is being curated by Insomniac, the studio who developed Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive. We can’t wait to start hearing (and seeing!) more about this game.
