It simply has to be MGS2, the Substance version of course. Back on PS2 I could never finish the last 20% or so of the VR/Alternative missions as they were so, so hard, but when I got the HD Collection last year (the special limited one from Zavvi, actually), I made it my mission to finish the game 100% and get the Platinum, which I did!

MGS2 has the best core gameplay, the most variety and for me holds the best memories of the series. I’ve completed the game about 40 times since I was 13.

My Favourite Metal Gear Title is and will ever be Metal Gear Solid for the PSX! This Game was so innovative! You could cheat on Mantis by changing the controller you played with, so he could not control your mind! This was and ever will be awesome! And the Metal Gear Solid is not a shooter, not a strategy game, not a spionage game… It was all together with an breathtaking story and two individual ends! C’mon!? What else could I say? I used to sit and play it with my cousin all the time, we would sit there all night in our pjs and play, i absolutely loved the theme tune to it too, such a beautiful song. For me, Metal Gear Solid 1 (PS1) remains the best game in the franchise. Even though it is not the first title in the series, Metal Gear Solid 1 introduced us gamers to a cinematic feel which was never approached in such a way before… The rich storyline accompanied with very detailed and realistic cutscenes for that era (90′s) was astonishing and breathtaking, along with a rich cast of characters which all had an intriguing personal background accompanied with terrific voice acting which made the player feel more immersed towards the expanding story. The soundtrack for the game was also the best I’ve ever heard back then which remains very memorable until this very day. The gameplay was also spectacular and unique; introducing stealth action to the gaming history and not to mention the amazing boss battles featured in the game; from the acrobatic Cyborg Ninja to the mind-controlling Psycho Mantis and to the beautifully-designed Metal Gear Rex battle. I have been an avid MGS fan for over 15 years; completing all the games countless times and reached 100% for all titles respectively, but Metal Gear Solid 1 will always remain my favourite from the series.

I am writing this message not just to take part in this competition, but to share my appreciation for this great franchise. Something apart from the competition I would like to share is a Tribute Video for Solid Snake which I have made myself back in 2010, titled: “MGS: A Future Without Hope”. The video was critically acclaimed as one of the best fan-made videos ever made for the Metal Gear Solid franchise and was also featured on several gaming websites such as N4G.com. I love the metal gear series, played Metal Gear on PS One like 5 or 6 times. MGS4 on ps3 is probably the best one, even though the story can be a little bit confusing at times, but I liked the fact that it had a lot of cutscenes and that it was so intense, and it’s still today one of the best looking games on ps3 even if it is from 2008.

I must say though, the one I liked the most, the one I enjoyed playing most was probably MGS Peace Walker on the PSP. Also probably the best game of Sony’s portable. It was awesome playing with Big Boss, the storyline was great, the cartoonesque scenes we’re great and the fact that you could focus on specific details during those was amazing. Then we’d also get a few bonus like when staring at some boobs during a scene we’de get a “Pervert” warning… I love those kind of details.

This may be a spin-off from the MGS series, but I’m looking forward to play with this Ninja-like Raiden, as in MGS I was kind of disapointed for having to play with him. Just played Revengeance demo and it looks totally gruesome and one of the best hack-n’-slash games of the last years, capable of competing with DMC or GoW!

Metal Gear Solid on PSX. It was one of the first few games I played when I get my PSX and it was fantastic. Graphics was excellent for that generation console and the story was great and the gameplay was the best of all. Tactical Espionage Action at its best.

The “!” with the sound effect always makes my heart skip a beat, even now.

I have never been a fan of the MGS games, I did try 4 but i just kept dying and gave up.
However having played the Demo of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on the PS3 I found it the only MGS i knew i could play ( maybe because you use swords )
But playing this one makes me want to give all the others another go ^^

Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation. I remember picking it up at MVC (R.I.P) by chance, having no idea what the game was about. My original purchase was for Driver, but they were sold out on driver at the time! As if by fate itself, what a better choice it was in the end.

Amazing memories of the game, brilliant story, well told characters that you cared for, awesome story and truly exceptional soundtrack. A true masterpiece. Very few games have come close to this day that match it.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater, for me not only the best game in the whole series, but also, one of the best games EVER CREATED, period. It was the first game that made me cry like a little boy (with that ending, OMG) plus, the awesome gameplay mechanics, the setting, the characters, the dialogs, the music! the incredible fun and DIVERSE boss fights! I fell in love with MGS3 back in 2004 and to this day that love still remains.

The game has everything, from killer story with a gut wrenchingly emotional climax to memorable characters and the single best boss battle in gaming (old guy with parrot – yeah?). But more than that is the genius of Hideo Kojima, which shines through in every aspect of the game; design, gameplay, Easter eggs. Never before or since have we seen a director with as distinctive a style, and Metal Gear Solid 3 is, for me, the single best example of this. It’s sublime.

My favourite would have to be MGS for the PS1! I remember the 1st time I played it I was about 10 & had no idea what the Hell I was doin’ I remember how smart it made me feel when I ran around B2 thinkin’ “WHAT DO I DO???” & thinkin’ these walls look a different colour, I’ll use these C4 things hehehe & beatin Revolver Ocelot, findin’ out I can run & shoot if I hold down the X button such an amazin’ life changer! Not the runnin’ whilst shootin’ but the awesome game altogether! Oh yeah & how annoyin’ it was not knowin’ that Meryl’s number was LITERALLY on the back of the CD case hehe! Excellent game altogether! No long cutscenes either that ask you to save half way through

That’s a difficult decision, because i like all the games of the saga, but there are two games who mark me. So between Metal Gear solid 3 and Metal Gear Ghost Babel, i think i will chose Ghost Babel. I know that game is a spin-off but the fact of being a 2D game like the first ones on the MSX console is great, the producing of a new title in 2D was great and running in a portable console with 8-bits (Gameboy Color). In that time was very cool.

The first one on the PS1, I remember all the hype about the game, how it was the game you needed to own and they werent wrong,the training levels, playing the game, hiding in card board boxes, sneaking around, the game from 1997 had all the hallmarks of adventure games today.
The PS1 game had none of the graphical polish of today, so had to have substance, not ryling on just eye candy! And even today, over 15 years later it still holds its own.

No other game had tried a stealthy espionage game, also the fact it was the first to use 3D Polygons and cinematic cutscenes. It may have been one of the first games i ever pre-ordered, got my dad to use the mail order catalogue from gameplay and then one of my friends some how managed to get it the day before me (can’t remember if mine came a day late or his a day early, so it may have also been the first but definately not last time that i was burned by the promise of delivered for release day) I went to his house after school to play it and it meant i had nearly completed it before i’d opened my copy the next morning. It was Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (HD Collection). It is in my Top 3 of favourite games of all time. The setting (cold war), the story (the twists and turns, how much it captures us!), the reality of the game, where you get hungry and need something to eat e. g. , contrasting with the fantasy of the the Cobra Unit… It is one of the best written, well made games out there.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes on GameCube, easily. It actually wasn’t the first MGS I played (which goes to MGS2) but definitely the most involving.

Psycho Mantis telling me I like Mario? Classic. I doubt many gaming moments today will top that same feeling I got, and I suspect many others felt, when racing back through the complex to save Meryl from Sniper Wolf

i have to say MGS 4. The bosses in 4 had no back story, thats true, but neither did the cobra unit. Well they had just barely more than the BB unit.

however 4 is just such a grand culmination of everything. Nods to every game are there in handfulls, a truely affected cast, feeling the tolls of thier lives of fighting. It really felt like the end to me.

4, to me, had a far better sense of character development. Things were different at the end of the game for the characters, chances for peace and happiness were available after they sought attonement for thier sins. They made a difference and the world would become a better place because of it.

Definitely the PSX metal gear solid with all the new inovations that came with the game (like the best holiwood prodused movies,movie sekvences,stuf like changing the controler port from 1 to 2 and the famous text HIDEO that ghous around,smoking the cigaret puts my helth to lower level, thad put the smile on my face just unique ) i immediately fall in love vith the MGS franchise. After the time when the HD edition (ZAWI edition) came out,have to have them never mined i have them already for the PS2. Like others, it still holds well with a lot of extras, background stories and game modes.
Raiden had a lot of heat back then but am sure he is now loved, especially in MGS:Rising.

My favourite Metal Gear game is Metal Gear Solid on the Playstation 1.
It was a fantastic game which really brought the MGS series back to life, I loved all the characters in the game and the detail in conversations over the codec were great!

Some of my favourite memories from the game include the fight with psycho mantis where he would read your mind of your next move and you had to swap the controller to the second port to stop him from doing that.

Also the story of Snipier wolf and Otacon was very interesting and who could forget the twist at the end when you find out Liquid was with you all the way!

MGS 2 was the most impressive game in the series in my opinion. It looked really amazing at the time and was full of quirky little details that just screamed “next gen”. However, judging purely on gameplay, I’d say that MGS 4 and Peace Walker were the most robust, despite the abundance of cinematics on 4.

MGS2: A message kojima deep down wants to pass on (much more than simple human DNA, dont want to drag on here)

MGS3: Excellent Intro Music, emotional, moralality, and where does true loyalty lie eg. Zero & The Boss (and got to love EVA, yes?)

MGSPW: All Round FANTASTIC soundtrack and Kaz’s idea of War as business (its affecting us today)

MGS4: Continuing War as business with PMC’s, breaking the 4th wall and ‘Here’s to you’ what a song to pick for snake’s saga

I love all the metal gear solid games that i have played from metal gear on the msx to metal gear solid 4 + portable ops and peace walker on psp but one of my favourite would be metal gear solid 3: snake eater only because I love jungle element that you’re in, gameplay and story was a masterpiece and last of all THE BOSS, i was so sad when I killed her I didn’t feel right pulling that last trigger on her so I let the game do it plus Eva is hot. the game is awesome to play and I forgot how many times I finished it

My favourite Metal Gear game has to be Metal Gear Solid for the PS1. It had some classic characters in it such as Grey Fox and in particucular, Psycho Mantis whose epic boss battle had you changing the controller port on your console to defeat him. It was a major step up from any other MGS game before it and paved the way for this amazing series in terms of style, storyline and gameplay

The first one on the PS One! Two reasons: the boss fight with Psycho Mantis, in which you had to use an other controller port, because he could ‘read your mind’ and was always a step ahead of you if you didn’t. In other words, you couldn’t win it without switching the controller port. And 2nd reason: if Snake was killed (which happened a lot) you would first hear the alert sound which would make you jump in this sneaking situation followed by a very dramatic shout through the radio: “Snaaaaake!”.

If you’ve denied yourself MGS2 all these years for purely superficial reasons, you owe it to yourself to finally play the HD rerelease, which is the superior version of the game.

The classic from my childhood re-made with the fluid engine and mechanics of MGS2. Was bloody orgasmic and nostalgic to the max back in them days. Also loved the Nintendo tributes in the Psycho Mantis boss fight!

Still makes me laugh that my best mate had taken days to even make it into Shadow Moses at the beginning of the game!

The first “Metal Gear Solid” on the playstation has to be my favourite because i will never forget this game in it’s entire playthrough. I have finished this game dozens of times and even finished in highspeed record. Remember every detail from the incredible insane torture scene till the toilet scene where you can see meryl without pants if you rush after her in the toilet hahaha. Keep looking at her and she becomes as red as a tomato xD Bandana, Stealth and Tuxedo were the best and wauw especially stealth was all worth it to play over, over, over and over again xD *Punch enemy* *stealth* ? Huuuh ….. hahaha wonderfull game! Also memorable boss fights like Gray Fox, Psycho Mantis (second controller port trick), Sniper Wolf, Metal Gear, Liquid Snake, Revolver Ocelot, The Hind D and my absolute favourite Vulcan Raven xD Metal Gear Solid <3

WELLLL! (this is nice!), for me the series as a whole has been breath-taking and it’s very hard to whittle them down in such a short space (and of time). but the one that narrowly beats all by a fractional margin 4 me would have to be Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes! (GameCube remake). as it is a vast improvement on the original in the only way that it could have simply been improved – period! the action is perfectly well paced, and yet still allows you to act at your own pace (even if it is a steady one). the boss battles are awesome right up to the face-off against liquid snake. the characterisations are by far the best line-up any Metal Gear game as to offer (to date). the changing of sounds and background music add perfectly to the atmosphere throughout the game, alone – adding plenty of replay value. i simply couldn’t even mention how many sleepin hours this game has deprived me of, but found it was worth every waking hour spent so far! (yes, i still play it to this day). just bring on the HD version NOW Konami/Hideo san! now if you dont mind i’m going off! to take a can opener to that no good piece of scrap – Metal Gear! haahaa.

My favourite is Metal Gear Solid 3 (Subsistence or HD remake). It was my first game in the series on PS2. I remember at the time wanting to play a game that combined sneaking and stealth kills (at the time I was actually thinking Tenchu). Subsistence just happened to come out that week. It was an amazing edition of the game and a great introduction for a new-comer like me to the series.

My favourite Metal Gear game would have to be the original Metal Gear Solid game, a game which was made even better (graphically) on the Gamecube in the form of Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes.

The original MGS Game had great characters, an epic story and lots of interesting goodies (easter eggs) such as the Maryl Codec Code being on the back of the box, variety of outfits (Tuxedo etc) and who can forget the Psycho Mantis boss battle (where it read your memory card data).

All of the MGS game series are awesome for me…. but the best one that got me hooked up with the series is the one that released for Playstation System in the 90′s which is remaked for Gamecube that known as Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes… Metal Gear Series is actually started way back from the NES system… but back then i play that game just like any other NES games… nothing special on it… So, even Metal Gear Solid in PS system is not the first game in Metal Gear series, but that’s the one that got me hooked up, and always looking up for another Metal Gear game!! A METAL GEAR Big Fans eversince..

Why Metal Gear Solid? This Game was so innovative! the best part is when you face that Psycho Mantis that can read and control your mind… to defeat him, you must use the 2nd player controller because Psycho Mantis is only able to read the 1st player side… how creative is that!! AWESOMEE!!
The 1st game that i play that can get me a ‘movie like’ feeling…
The originality in gameplay that stroke right to my heart and mind…
not even the 2,3,4 or the portables like ‘Peace Walker’ of MGS series can offer so much originality and creativity in there…

so…. The Best Metal Gear Solid game ever to me is the 1st Metal Gear Solid that released for the Playstation system.

In my opinion, the best game of the series is a Metal Gear Solid. Then in 1998 I was quite young, and sat in the evenings playing this game. Already at the age game made ??me think many of life’s problems. Like my genetic relationship. Can I really choose himself my life would not allow me to run the genes, because I do not want to repeat the path of my father … Then, for me as a young teenager, the topic was very relevant, especially when my father died an alcoholic from a stroke, which is no interest in life.

I would not share my thoughts, if not for this call. I am a fan of the video game series Metal Gear, Solid Snake, and Ninja Raiden. But I have no money even for a simple copy of the game. Thanks to the Team Zavvi for allowing competition for what they do, though one person, but to play in a new interesting game, even if now you have no money to buy the game.

Metal Gear Solid 4, hands down. I’ve always been a big fan of the series, but didn’t get a PS3 until this Christmas, so it took me four years before I got playing it. Totally worth it, as it tied up most of the loose ends, and brought some sense to the whole story. An epic game if there ever was such a thing. I like Rising too.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes – Silicon Knights took an already perfect game and improved upon it using aspects of MGS2. The original game was a masterpiece in its own right, and demanded multiple successive play-throughs, but the remake just made the MGS experience all the more enjoyable! The new cutscenes were a pleasure to watch, and it was great to revisit the game with improved visuals. While the orginal still holds up as one of the best games for the PS1, the remake solidifies itself as one of the best for the GameCube!

Metal gear solid on PS1, I discovered hideo Kojima with this game. I loved all the mind tricks, the twists in the intrigue and the outside the box thinking the game had at the time.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, closely followed by the first one. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better ending than in MGS3.

Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots

For me this game was the definition of a perfect game and it was one of the first games I’ve played in my PS3, so I was blown away from start to finish.

The story is amazing, the dramatic moments really intense especially close to the end (that microwave scene was the most intense moment in gaming for me)… and the gameplay… oh the gameplay: perfect metal gear stealth.

I loved every second of this game it just did everything right
Snake’s final mission and the final struggle with Liquid Ocelot. I loved how every living character makes a return and how they made past hated characters (Raiden) total monster with new upgrades.

I think it has to be Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on the GameCube. Not only was it a brilliant and worthy remake of an already outstanding game, but the extras just made it that much better aswell!

Add to that the fact that you could play as that version of Snake (what would seem the most popular and memorable version of the character) in Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii AND play on an awesome Twin Snakes-themed level (complete with metal gear Rex in the background!), and there you have it further proof of just how much this game means to fans! What would have made it better would be if Raiden was in there aswell ^__^

The game that I liked most of the Metal Gear saga, was the first in the series, one on ps1, because at the time it was an outright revolution that changed at all, I think the world of videogames. The story then was really exciting, full of suspense. Kojima also managed to squeeze in the bottom of the Ps1, creating in the game graphics quality unparalleled at the time. Thanks Kojima for delighting us with this wonderful saga. Zavvi, make happy a mega fan of Metal Gear like me.

My fav MGS will always be the first installment. My dad bought it for me on release day all those years ago and I still own it to this day. It was a game we bonded over and were determined to beat.

When I visited him in Australia, I had to bring it over for my new step brother to experience. Passing it on to a new generation was awesome!
