"Old Ideas" is the long awaited twelfth studio album by the legendary Canadian singer song writer Leonard Cohen. This record is the follow up to his eleventh studio album "Dear Heather", which was released in 2004.

Featured on the album is the lead single "Show Me The Place", which is a slow, piano-driven song with understated melodies, keeping the textures simplistic. This style of song amply displays Cohen's supremely rich and distinctive voice, the tone of which is wonderfully deep, each word of his brilliantly written lyrics being properly enunciated and filled with depth and meaning.

This record is yet another incredible addition to the still ever growing discography of the living legend that is Leonard Cohen. Another amazingly talented musical triumph. (Cat Emerson)

The Man With The Golden Voice

No-one expected Leonard Cohen to make another album at the age of 77 and certainly not for it to be up there with the best of his career. That, however, is what we've got here - a truly impressive album which, contrary to the popular stereotype, left me with a smile of my face throughout. All the tracks are excellent and engaging but early favourites are Darkness, a perfect cross between what Bob Dylan and Tom Waits strive for on their recent albums, and the solo acoustic masterpiece Crazy To Love You, which would have been equally at home on any of his first four albums. I saw Leonard in concert twice in 2008 and had my expectations (ageing legend turns up and maybe recites some poems) completely blown away by the reality (three and a half hour gigs featuring four encores with 'all the hits and more' sung in great voice). I am pleased to say this album has done exactly the same for my expectations of what he could reasonably achieve in the studio these days. I owe Leonard a sincere apology for underestimating him with my own 'old ideas'. Although I listened to this at the end of January I have no hesitation in naming it my album of the year.
