"The Official Bootleg Box Set Vol. 2" is the second era of the British rock group Marillion packaged up in an enticing live collection. The band's discography spans over three decades and a distinct split is often distinguished by the lead singer of that time. The group formed in 1979, and was led by big man Derek William Dick, otherwise known and loved as Fish.
Following Fish's departure in the late 1980's, Steve Hogarth rocked up and, with such a large pair of shoes to fill, offered something different to the table including a new direction of lyrical content and deeper connection with the band. Some may argue that this is when the band truly broke away from the sound of other big 80's bands, such as Genesis, and started creating unique Marillion music.
Within this collection you will experience the live quality of this long standing UK band from '90s performances across the British Isles. The tracks include hits from both legendary genres, such as "Kayleigh", "Lavender", "Incommunicado", and "No One Can". Also included is a select few Live Radio Session recordings for your listening pleasure. For those of you who were lucky enough to attend any of these gigs, or simply continue to have a love for this band, then this package is for you! (Justine Dench)

The Official Bootleg Box Set Vol.2
If you want to hear the real sound, exactly how it should be - straight from the studio, then buy this album. There's not really anything more that needs to be said.

Marillion - progressive excellence
Having been an avid Marillion fan for many moons I know all of the songs on the tracklist. I never get bored of this band and the live sound is awesome. Didn't have this CD set in my collection until now and it was a no brainer at this price! Long live the band - keep the faith.

The Early H Years
I was brought up during the Fish era of Marillion and always struggled with Steve Hogarth when he took over vocal duties at the end of the 80s. Listening back to this set of excellent quality live Radio recordings, I must admit that he wasn't as bad as I thought at the time. There is still a large proportion of the early set lists made up from Fish era albums (you even get a Script For A Jesters Tear on one gig) to ease me in gently and the rest of the songs, although not as familiar to me, are pretty good really! Packaging is great, a nice sturdy box with a booklet and individually sleeved discs and all for less than the price of a couple of pints of real ale!

Marillion Bootleg Boxset 2 and why you should buy it
Right then lets get some basics set down: Fish left in 1988, the 'new' lead singer is Steve 'h' Hogarth who is featured on all 8 (Yes 8) Discs of this live box. Discs 1-2 are from Leicester DeMontfort hall on the seasons end tour and it features the whole of seasons end performed as well as Fish era classics but by Hogarth. It's a great way to hear a new vocal interpretation of these timeless songs. Disc 3 is from Cumbria Rock festival, so it shows Marillion's rock side and features a few upbeat numbers that get the crowd going, such as 'Cover my eyes' (Holidays in Eden) and a few other HiE era pop tinged songs. Discs 4-5 are the Wembley 10th Anniversary of Marillion joining EMI records and they play a 'greatest hits' set with a few live rarities such as 'I Will Walk On Water' and 'Sympathy'. Disc 6-7 are a full performance of Brave in Warsaw with the hits thrown in aswell. The final disc features tracks from BBC sessions with Bob Harris and Johnnie Walker, this shows a more acoustic side to the band and shows songs such as 'Kayleigh' re-interpreted.

Marillion, Bootleg Box Set
A great record of some classic concerts, featuring the post-Fish band but covering a lot of Fish-era material. Excellent sound quality and a good selection of tracks including some less popular ones.

The Best of Both Worlds?
A bumper selection of live Hogarth era performances, a few rarities, and all good quality recordings. Those worried by quality issues with "bootleg" offerings can rest assured. Some excellent performances, and stunning renditions of firm favourites (Hollow Man etc.) with a fair sprinkling of FISH era classics performed by Mr H and the Band. Good to hear Mr H belt out Warm Wet Circles, Heart of Lothian, etc. At this price if you're a Marillion Fan of any description, then: Why wouldn't you buy this 8 CD Box Set? A stunner!

Marillion 8 cd box set
I loved Marillion back in the day, when Fish was the lead singer, so I almost didn't buy this set, even at the bargain price. I'm really glad I did though as it's truly excellent. Steve Hogarth's vocals are fantastic throughout and although it seems a little strange hearing him singing some of the old classics once you get passed that he brings new life to them. Overall I'd definitely recommend this set to old fans as well as new.

Best prog rock ever!
This is a great slection of live recordings if you are new to Marillion or even an older fan like me. Marillion have always been different and when live they are very powerful. This set charts the middle years after Fish left but before they became absolutely brilliant (Marbles/Happiness is the road etc). They are in a truly deep vein of form currently but this selection of tracks is still brilliant.

The Official Bootleg Box Set vol 2
This official 'bootleg' set of live Marillion shows from the 1990s is terrific value for money and is well worth having particularly for the joy of hearing Steve Hogarth singing tracks from the Fish era, something which happens very rarely at their live shows these days. Highly recommended.

Good But No Fish
I know that there are two camps in the Marillion fanbase, the Fish era and the rest, these CDs straddle both. I loved the first early stages release with Fish, I bought this to have both but was pleasantly surprised, Steve Hogarth does quite a good job with the early Marillion material. He does however seem to put more into the later material, obviously. All in all a good snapshot of a band in transition, good to hear Hogarth sing classics like script for a jesters tear and the last straw, which I had never heard him sing before. So whichever camp you belong to this is a worthwhile box set to own.

Marillion The Official Bootleg Box Set Vol.2
This is probably the only decent set of Hogarth era gigs with a healthy smattering of Fish era songs and I love it. You can't beat the big fella but H does a good job of keeping the songs for the group whilst adding his own style. Particularly good is Market Sq Heroes. By the time you get to the Brave gig you tend to forget about Fish (Sorry, shoot me now as I am a huge fan). The quality is excellent and the musicianship great, recommended.
