The irrepressible Noel Gallagher finally releases his long-awaited debut solo album in the form of 'High Flying Birds'.
In the wake of a break up that some may have said was a long time coming, indifferent feelings about the direction of the group caused Noel to call time on Oasis. For a band who were the soundtrack to the nineties, touched the lives of millions, and sold out stadiums and arenas around the world, it was a bold move. Almost two years later though, there is a considerable hype surrounding this album and Noel has not appeared to disappoint.

The first single to be released is 'The Death of You and Me' and what a way to kick things off. A great blend of funky rock, catchy pop and ... trumpets! The second is 'If I Had a Gun', where Noel seems to jump into second gear after a melodic lead single. The use of electric guitars and the soaring vocals during the chorus gives you the feeling of being elevated and uplifted whilst the verses are haunting but powerful. It certainly feels like a new start and a chance for him to reign free in making his own unique brand of rock music.
'High Flying Birds' carries with it the aura that this could may well be Noel back to his best in terms of songwriting and presence. With variety and contrast to earlier work (with Oasis) this is surely not one to be missed. (John Minard)

High Flying Birds
Out of all things that Noel Gallagher has done in the world of music, this is definitely his best album ever, with his band, The High Flying Birds.

Superb debut!
Beady Eye gave us more of Liam Gallaghers vocal yelp, through Beatle-sy tinged tracks, but with varying success. Noel's debut album brings us more of the sort of tracks he brought us when in Oasis, soaring choruses and consistently good tunes. The only weak track is Stop The Clocks but even then it is still a good song. This is a much more accomplished album than that of Beady Eye, and whilst probably unfair to compare, they are completely different in styles, there will be inevitable comparisons. Noel wins. Although if this album had 'The Roller' on it, I would have given it 5 stars. Buy it!
