Description

"Area 52" is a brilliant re-production album by the extremely mesmerising Mexican guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela. The album is full of classic hits by the exciting duo, re-worked and re-recorded with the full Cuban Orchestra C.U.B.A. to create something completely unique that is sure to get any party atmosphere buzzing!

The record also includes guest appearances from the renowned sitar player Anoushka Shankar, jazz musician Carles Benavent, and rock drummer John Tempesta (The Cult, White Zombie, Testament), incorporating all their related genres to produce a dynamic sound throughout the album. This is a must have for existing fans of the Rodrigo y Gabriela and those who enjoy a Cuban big band sound.

Well worth checking out

Area 52 is the first Rodrigo y Gabriela album I have bought, but it won't be the last. I had heard their names, but had not got around to listening to them properly, but following a favourable review in a music magazine, I sent for it, with no regrets. It's a very interesting fusion or mix of various musical genres or styles and influences, so possibly not typical of their work, but nonetheless, very good indeed. They're obviously very talented and I'll probably go to see them live too, as a result of buying this album. It's not the best album I've ever heard, but I'd certainly recommend it to music lovers, particularly people who have an open mind on what they'll listen to.
