We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery CD

"Brain Trust Mastery" is the second studio album by the tempestuous Californian indie-rock band We Are Scientists, and followed their highly successful debut studio album "With Love and Squalor". In comparison, this record contains more sombre driven lyrics and thrives on the use of synthesisers, and the opening track "Ghouls" is a perfect example of this change.

However, the album still retains the essence of WAS with its use of up tempo thundering rhythms, slick riffs and melodies, and Keith Murray's distinctive alternative vocals. The first single "After Hours" owns a catchy chorus and steady flow and was a BBC Radio 1 favourite, reaching the top 20 in the UK Album Chart. Overall the album seeps a classic indie sound, and is a perfect collection addition for those who enjoy the likes of Maximo Park, The Pigeon Detectives, The Cribs and The Automatic. - J.D.
