The King Has Spoken

At first, I was really not so sure about The King's Speech: it might be dry, not very entertaining and a little dull. My girlfriend eventually convinced me to try it out and I was positively surprised by this expertly crafted piece of film history. The story is gripping and there are no lengthy bits in it at all. The humour is wonderfully entertaining and the characters are very well written. Furthermore, Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush play their parts with such a love for detail and character that one cannot help but empathise with the two. In addition to that, it's great to see history developing on the margins of the films. This makes you realise that even the the most important men and women on the world's stage are merely players themselves and are troubled by their own little problems.

The King's Speech, worth the Oscars

I had seen the Oscars when 'The King's Speech' won so many, almost too many for one film. I held that thought until I saw the film. It's perfect, wonderful, moving and impressive. These are just a few of the compliments that the film deserves. I sat there locked to my screen for the entire film. I had not been able to see it when it was on at the cinema, and I regret that. Colin Firth, was even more than I expected, and added immensely to a truly great story. Complimenting Mr. Firth's was the part played by Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter's part as the King's wife were the finishing touches to this masterpiece. I can't compliment this film enough.

The King's Speech

What a great film! Having seen this film at the cinema (and having thoroughly enjoyed it) I couldn't wait to buy it for myself as soon as I possibly could. If you enjoy laughing, feeling interested, and generally good films, you should definitely buy THIS ONE!

Rivetting King's Speech

The film is totally absorbing, exploring the mind-set of a sensitive man who was cruelly bullied by his father and virtually ignored by his mother, all in the best traditions of a royal family in the early 20th century. I think that the distaste of Queen Elizabeth for David and Wallis could have been displayed a bit more. Overall, the casting, acting and locations are excellent. The "extras" allow an opportunity to directly compare Colin Firth's speech with that of the real King, and the similarity is uncanny. A "must see" film.

Brilliant.

This film was amazing. The best film I've seen in a long time. Colin Firth portrayed the role brilliantly, A poignant and highly enjoyable watch, The Oscars say it all. Definitely one to have on the shelf.

The King's Speech

A beautifully written light hearted take on the struggle of a nation; bringing refreshing performances from Colin Firth and especially Geoffrey Rush (minus his pirate hat and "yarrr" manorisms). All brought together with stunning periodic settings and atmosphere.

This is how history should be taught

I wasn't expecting too much from this film. After all, how can a film about a guy trying to find a cure for his stutter be kept interesting for the length of a film. Watch this and you will want to keep watching to the end. All the actors are excellent and the film deserves its Oscars. If history was taught at school by showing films like this we would all know a lot more history.

Brilliant!

I usually don't like films that have been hyped up in the way The King's Speech has been but this was excellent. Colin Firth truly deserved every award he's been given for this film and Helena Bonham Carter plays the Queen Mother excellently. My favourite film of 2011 so far.

Well worth a watch

I wasn't sure if this would be my sort of film usually preferring more action packed movies. I'm glad I went to see it. Colin Firth is excellent as is Geoffrey Rush. I have heard complaints that films like these will distort people's views of history with some parts added for entertainment value. I think it is better that films like this get made and people at least know something about our history where previously they knew nothing. I would definitely recommend this film.
