Anime At Its Finest

Created by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba (Blade Of Demon Destruction) is a Japanese manga series. An anime series, which totalled 26 episodes for its first season, released in 2019. The show received a sequel film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train, the following year — it became the highest-grossing anime film ever released. The anime is widely praised for its animation and immersive fight scenes, being given various awards.

The narrative follows Tanjiro Kamado and his sister Nezuko Kamdo in Taishō-era Japan. They live with their family in the mountains, with Tanjiro providing income after his father’s passing by selling charcoal in a nearby village. One day he comes home and sees that his family has been attacked by a demon, leaving him and Nazeko as the sole survivors.

Unfortunately, Nezuko is cursed to become a demon, but she still retains her human emotion and thought. On their search for a cure, they encounter Giyū Tomioka. He is a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, a secret society that has been secretly at war with the demons for many centuries. Tanjiro is recruited by him and trained by Sakonji Urokodaki to become one of the demon slayers.

In this world, demons were previously normal humans who sold their humanity in pursuit of power. Using their power — strength, regeneration, magic, and other supernatural abilities — they terrorise and feed on humans. The Demon Slayers fight against these creatures using ‘Breathing Styles’, special techniques that give them enhanced strength and durability. They are able to kill demons by decapitating them with Sun Steel weapons, poisoning them with wisteria flowers, or exposing them to sunlight.
