Good game but....

As per title... A good game for 3ds but I surely prefer the Xbox360 version. The SuperSonic speed of...Sonic (ehi...what did you expect?) is really well improved. Grafic and 3D effects are really cool. If you are looking for a game in order to kill time...this is the tile for you.

Just got my little girl the 3DS XL and the obligatory Mario games but I wanted something else for her as well so I purchased the Sonic Generations and she loved it! She and her mates find it very funny and they all want to play it. It looks great on the 3DS as well! Recommend.

The only real flaw with Sonic Generations, for me, is the length of it. It has 7 "zones", but each one only contains one level for original, classic Sonic, one level for the modernised sonic, and one bonus stage. There's also a few boss stages, and 100 missions that are unlockable via play-coins, or by completing levels, but this doesn't feel enough. The missions are set out like challenges such as "complete the level without getting hit once" or "complete the level in under 60 seconds". I feel that if Sega had doubled the amount of zones in this game, it would absolutely brilliant. What you get is great, don't get me wrong, but it's just over too quick. I still recommend this game though.

A Great Portable Sonic Title

The PS3/XBOX 360 versions are very different to this iteration on the 3DS. This game has different levels and different gameplay elements. Classic Sonic works so much better on this than the console version, I didn't really enjoy classic sonic on PS3 as I felt it was quite clunky, but on the 3DS version this is a major improvement in how the game feels. Modern Sonic is kind of the opposite, whilst the speed is faster, he's prone to getting hurt by stuff right in front of him, it's still a nice ride, but it's not really modern sonic as 80% of the levels are 2D driven, with 3D camera angles. The special stages are cool, similar to the Sonic Heroes special stage, it is a full 3D run to grab the Chaos Emerald. The game is quite short beating it in under 4 hours, but there is much reply value, including; 100 missions, Online Leaderboards, Online races, Time Attack. So there is a lot to do!

Fun but too short

Not the best of Sonics handheld games - the Rush series (which will play on a 3DS) are much better games, with better music and they'll last you a bit longer too. I beat this game in about three hours. What's there is fun though, but definitely not worth the current £32.95 asking price. I'd wait until this is about a tenner before you jump in and get this. The 3D in this game made my eyes feel a bit sore, even though I'm fine with the 3D in other games like Super Mario 3D Land - this could be because of the faster pace of the game though. I do like that it has special stages though - certainly something that the 3DS version has over the 360/PS3/PC versions of the game, but given the choice (having played both versions) I'd opt for those over this one. This is a game worth playing when you find it cheap, but not at the current price. Keep and eye on it and wait - there are some better alternatives out there.

Sonic Generations 3DS edition.

Sonic Generations is a good game, and its definately a title worth picking up for £20 or less. Sonic games usually have a gimmick, whether thats the introduction of a new character, a race of power-up giving aliens or a werehog. In Sonic Generations something has gone wrong with time, allowing you to play as both Classic Sonic (which plays almost identical to the earlier Mega-Drive games) and Modern-Sonic (whose levels play similar to the DS Sonic Rush games). For both characters the levels are exclusively side-scrolling rather than played out in three dimensions like on the home-console versions. Later in the game, as Classic Sonic aquires more abilities, the difference in control between the two Sonics blurs making the distinction between how each of the Hedgehog's different levels play even smaller. The main campaign is short but sweet, and you'll easily have it beaten within the first few hours of play. The main 'meat' of the game comes within chasing those all-elusive 'S ranks': the highest grade awarded for racing through the levels as fast as you can whilst collecting rings and navigating past enemies. Finding the fastest route through a level is surprisingly addictive, and your new-found knowledge and skill certainly benefits you when racing through the levels against a friend/competitor in the fun local play and online modes. There is also an interesting 'mission mode' where you play through the same levels with a particular objective in mind (eg, destroy so many enemies, collect so many rings etc). There are 100 of these, which can be unlocked through 'StreetPass', play coins and by progression through the games story. Successfully completed missions are rewarded with extras such as illustrations, 3D character models and music tracks taken from the whole history of Sonic games. These collections are really quite exhaustive and collecting them can become very addictive. This is currently my favourite part of the game. In regards to the story, this is one of the games low points. However, keep in mind that the much-celebrated Mega-Drive Sonic games got by just fine with only the slightest suggestion of an overall story. The grand animated cut-scenes of the 3DS games 'bigger-brother' on 360/PS3 are rather lacklusterly replaced by mostly static scenes with text bubbles and minimal voice-acting. This choice of execution for these scenes fails to convey emotion or excitement and even fails to coherently explain the story of the game. Something about a "time-eater" draining colour from moments in the past, blah, blah, blah. Still, there is much to enjoy here. Perhaps the only thing better than the obvious nostalgia of playing through much-loved past environments, is to see those environments updated both structurally and graphically. The game looks incredible, and the 3D effect (exclusive to the 3DS) is very well done. I did experience a 'ghosting' effect on one of the bosses, but otherwise the 3D effect is most definatey one of the games high-points. This game is a worthwhile celebration of 20 years of Sonic gaming. High-score chasers and collecting-addicts will get the most value out of this game, whereas others may find its over all too quickly. Still, its a fun experience. If you've completed Zelda 3DS and the Super Mario 3DS games, then this is definately a title you should consider next.

Sonic Generations 3DS

Sonic Generations for the 3DS was really fun with very interesting maps and bosses, for me the music was awesome and i loved playing them remixes of classics out loud. The bad thing is that it's very short, there are 8levels with 2acts each and 5 bosses with 7 bonus levels and although that may sound like a lot i managed to complete all of them in around 2hours but i am a hardcore Sonic fan, that game doe's have replay ability but that's not what you buy the game for, it does have online which the game for other platforms doesn't which is 1v1 racing and is fun but does get boring, it also has a lot of missions kind of like in sonic adventure 2 but again it kind of just playing the same levels again but with a few extra things you need to do. I don't think the games worth the 30pounds i paid for it considering i bought Saints Row The Third for 25pounds and have got over 30hours of play time on it compared to about 3-4hours off of this game but i think £20 is a decent buy and if you want something to play while out and about it's well worth it.
