Excellent WW2 Shooter
Red Orchestra is a WW2-themed First Person Shooter. The action takes place on the Eastern Front, between the German Wehrmacht and the Red Army of the Soviet Union. The game is multiplayer, with two teams (Germans and Soviets). There's also a "training mode", which lets you test your skills against AI-controlled bots, but it only serves as a quick tutorial for the multiplayer. In the game you take the role of a lone soldier, choosing between several different roles, for example sniper, machine gunner, assault trooper, officer etc. The roles aren't very strict, the basically only determine what starting euipment you get. The Anti-tank soldier gets an anti-tank weapon and a sidearm, whereas the rifleman gets a rifle and a few grenades. Tanks and other vehicles are also modelled and the tank battles are quite thrilling, since they are modelled quite realistically. Realism and real-life physics are a big (and good) part of the game. No medpacks, no regenerating health and no bunny-jumping. This game is for those who prefer a more authentic WW2 shooter, where one shot can (and usually does) kill. A few excellent mods, the Normandy mod Darkest Hour and the North Africa mod Mare Nostrum, really add to the game and are well worth trying. The game installs via Steam, and you need to have a Steam-account to be able to play it.
