    Description

Dark Souls is the critically acclaimed spiritual successor to the game Demon Souls, which was released in 2009. An incredibly innovative role playing game, Dark Souls provides a completely unique concept few would dare to try to create, and makes for a once in a lifetime game playing experience. This ground breaking game has perfectly balanced intricate storyline with breath taking graphics and heart racing action, amounting to something that can be enjoyed by all. However, Dark Souls is not for the faint hearted...

Endure spine chilling and tensely hostile environments as you travel though this vast and unwelcoming open world, a world that is home to a host of terrifying creatures and demons that want nothing more than to eviscerate you. Explore this twisted fantasy universe and trawl through dungeons, with both your wits and strength being constantly put to the test in this brutally dark and challenging third person RPG.

You can choose from a wide and detailed variety of ten races for your character, including warrior, cleric, thief, sorcerer, hunter, and more. Each of these races have their own specialised skills, for example melee or magic, with upgrades to achieve and apply as you progress throughout the game, allowing you to truly tailor your character to your specifications. This game adds an additional feature when it comes to armour and weaponry, allowing you to forge them yourself should you not want to buy or scavenge for them. An extra twist is also presented, making death the main focus of the entire game play. This isn't always a bad thing though; dying is your education, and the theme of the cruel universe through which you trek. Within this punishing world, survival will be your utmost accomplishment, and your most impressive victory.

The beauty about the combat in Dark Souls is that it will never truly pin you to a certain playing style; you can switch from a heavy warrior to a swift thief just by changing up your weapons and armour, and you can even become a mage or a healer by finding a sorcerer's catalyst or talisman, allowing you to be constantly fluid in your combat. Another interesting little twist in this game is the way that the bonfires you'll find placed around the world are checkpoints, where you can repair your items, refill your health flasks, and ensure it to be a respawn point should you die. Another thing you can do at a bonfire is spend the souls of your vanquished foes, which act as this game's currency, and which can be spent on levelling up, increasing your health, stamina, and magical abilities.

There is also a definitive online co-op multiplayer experience within Dark Souls, which has you relying on other individuals throughout the game to share tips, strategies, and various knowledge to help you progress. You will be able to see the shadows of other players as they in turn trek through this vast, cruel world, and even the blood stains of where they have been smite. When you die, you will leave your own blood stain and become Hollowed, losing all souls that you have collected. However, should you make it back to your stain before being decimated again, you will regain everything that you had lost. Another resource you will be relying on throughout this game is your Humanity, gained only through items and by defeating horrendous and terrifying bosses, which can be used to light your own bonfires and revive yourself to Human.

This incredibly imaginative game will transport you through this punishing universe, allowing you to write your own destiny, pulling you ever deeper with each victory, and completely immersing yourself in the darkness. Whether you come out alive is up to you. (Cat Emerson)

    Dark Souls

Dark Souls is as unforgiving as games of 25 years ago, but with amazing graphics and atmosphere. Dark Souls is very similar to Demon's Souls right down to the control method and layout. It's an evolution of Demon's Souls ideas rather than a revolution. As Demons Souls is in my top 5 of games of all time, that's no bad thing. The game has no music in it but bags of atmosphere, with a decent surround sound system you can practically feel the wind on your back or enemies breath on your neck. The enemies are always lethal, even the early ones you can kill with one swing of your sword, later in the game when you have been levelling up like mad. Complacency and confidence are the problem with Dark Souls - you take an extra swing when you should really have retreated or used your shield... then that's it, a 15 minute treck to get back to where you were, before you thought you were "The Man" and got spanked. The bosses in this game are easily on par with Demon's Souls, but the main difference is that this game has no hub area. The whole world is as open and expansive as a console game will get this generation. This game is not your pick-up-and-play sort of game - it requires you to invest a lot of time and commit enemy attacks to memory. As the tag line for the game say's "You will die"... just an awful lot.

    Dark Souls

If you like a challenge, and have not played a hardcore RPG in absolutely ages, then you must try Dark Souls. There is little to be said about this game that hasn't already been said, but the thing that impressed me the most is the diference in the playthroughs from my first as a knight, to my last as a naked savage with a club. It's a must-play when you're alone, or with friends if you're easily scared, but no matter what, you should definitely play it.

    Dark Souls

Dark Souls is not a game that you play to relax. It doesn't care in the slightest about whether you're enjoying yourself, and it doesn't give a damn for your notions of entertainment, or your mental well-being. This simply is one of the most thrilling, most fascinating and most completely absorbing experiences in gaming.

    Excellent game

This is a difficult game, it was not made for those who only like to play for a few hours making their way easily through the game. Yet, for those who don't, this is a great game, with lots of different enemies to defeat, with different fighting mechanics, amazing graphics, great sound and soundtrack, and the world just doesn't seem to end, there is always someplace you haven't been yet. The online features are also very cool, you can enter other players' world, either choosing to help or oppose them. I must say I wasn't very sure at first, but now I'm very happy that I bought this game.

    The Dark is in you

Personally the best game ever. The world is surrounded by darkness and many have tried to rid the world or in the enterprise to become the master, but all have suffered the same fate as the Death and the curse of hallow. A fully explorable world with monstrous creatures just waiting to find a way to kill even more insidious. Wielding your sword and enter into this horror story, you'll be able to survive? In addition, a whole new way to play online (like demon's soul) with the opportunity to help other players or make the game more difficult hindering them in their company, the choice is yours.

    Dark Souls

Dark Souls gets a lot of press about how hard it is, and I agree, it can be tough, but don't be put off. It's a very rewarding game because of it's difficulty. Unlike many RPGs, it doesn't hold your hand, and expose its story in large chunks of dialogue. It's actually quite the opposite. There is an absorbing world to inhabit, but you have to work hard for every piece of it. Very little is explained, and even some basic game-play mechanics require a little Google search to clear up, but don't be tempted to read too much off the net - it will water down the experience. My recommendations are, grab a good set of headphones, dim the lights, and enjoy this very very good game.

    Fantastic atmosphere, but too frustrating

Dark Souls like Demon Souls, is a brilliant action based RPG with an amazing, dark atmosphere. You cannot find this kind of atmosphere in any other game. I'm the kind of gamer who plays for fun, I like challenging quests but nothing frustrating.

    Dark Souls

I really enjoyed Dark Souls. It's not so much an RPG with a lot of story, as you end up writing out your own story in your play through, depending how you go about it. You'll find treasures, strangers and deadly monsters everywhere, as there is a lot to explore, because the game is open world, but certain paths are locked at the beginning. Dark Souls also features excellent online co-op and online player-versus-player content. Characters can be developed to your liking, as every statistic is available to enhance by however much you want when levelling up. Even if you begin, for example, as a knight, you can later choose to learn sorceries or miracles. The craft system is basic but still has a good variety of options. You can refine, enchant or cast spells on to your weapons with this. The Design of the game is very dark and deeply-detailed, which really makes you sink into the world, and sometimes feel lonely in the abyss. If you're new to the game, or even a certain zone, it can get scary, but that makes the experience all the better. One thing I love about this game is that there is a lot of replay value. You can literally restart the story mode as many times as you want with your character, keeping all of his statistics and most of his equipment. I really enjoyed Dark Souls, and just like everybody says, it is very difficult. But it's a lot of fun at the same time. I highly recommend it.

    Dark Souls

Dark Souls is full of incredible game play that forces the player to be on their toes. If you have played Demon Souls, this is a must-buy, as Dark Souls game play is an improvement in every aspect of Demon Souls. Even if you have never played Demon Souls, but are still a fan of RPGs, then this game is still a necessity. It combines strategy with skill, and entices you to keep trying (due to it's intense difficulty!) for hours on end, before you decide to start all over again. Highly recommended.

Dark Souls is simply awesome. It's a must-have for any RPG fans! Japanese games are not for everyone, seeing as they're usually more difficult than most "others" that are produced in Europe and America, but they're still very good games. The graphics, the game play, all enjoyable. I really liked it! I highly recommend it.

    Dark Souls

Dark Souls is an immersive, sometimes unforgiving action RPG developed by From Software. The first thing people usually talk about when discussing Dark Souls is the gameplay difficulty. Sure, if you stomp through the levels without caution you will find yourself dead very quickly. But this is a good thing. There are no spammy, mind-numbing fights in this game. Each encounter requires careful, considered actions. Once you adjust to this pacing the combat becomes richly rewarding and you can get down to the business of exploring this bleak but beautiful world. It's been a long time since I felt this immersed in a game and it's inhabitants. It's also been a while since I was required to think for myself in a game. Dark Souls will make you carefully consider each action you take and it will punish you brutally for incorrect decisions. The flip-side of this is that getting it right is so much more rewarding. I put off purchasing this game because of all the talk of how hardcore it is. Hardcore shouldn't be it's selling point. Dark Souls is a beautifully crafted, well balanced RPG that will suck you in and not let you leave.

    Dark Souls

You'll have heard by now that this is a difficult game. It's true. It can be brutal. But it can be rewarding too. I don't have masses of spare time to play games any more, so I keep my phone at my side with a walk-through loaded, to save the hours of backtracking and experimenting I'd otherwise have to do, and you know what? It's still massively hard. I still die all the time, and inevitably swear and curse at my TV. After all though, it's still fun, still rewarding, and will still take hours to get through, but this game has a way of making you not care. So, if you like a challenge, give it a go. You don't have to be hardcore to play here, but it definitely helps.

Addictive, Fantastic, Enthralling, Brilliant.....the list goes on!

Dark Souls. What can I say? Addictive, Fantastic, Enthralling, Brilliant.....the list goes on. ! This, however, wasn't always the opinion I held of the game. The first time I bought it, I got so frustrated that I traded it in after a week. For some reason though, Dark Souls stayed in the back of my head and eventually I decided to give it another go. This time I picked up a copy of the Strategy Guide too (which is an absolute necessity). Now Dark Souls is my favourite game of all time and I have it on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. If you want a game that consists of a wonderful and rich world, fantastic graphics, well-thought gameplay and strategy, tough enemies, different endings, changing NPC paths based on decisions and plenty of action - go ahead and buy this game today. You will love it and no other game will infringe on your game playtime until you have completely exhausted this game. Score: 96%

    Dark Souls

Darl Souls really sucks you in and makes you fill you are a part of its amazing world! One of the best rpg experiences. It's challenging and it doesn't forgive your mistakes but it isn't as hard as you may have heard. It just requires attention, patience and finding the right technique for each enemy. Actually, with the right approach you'll kill everyone really easily. The online play is really fun. You can co-op or pvp and through the game you find many different ways and reasons to do it. You can choose to invade other players to curse them or steal their items or protect a forest from human intruders. This game could get a 5star but there are some bad things too. Sometimes the enemies seem stupid. For example you can attack and kill some tough enemies from a distance with bow and arrow and they won't move a bit. And it can get too difficult to find and challenge other players online.

Dark Souls is like nothing you'eve ever played before

I was interested in Demon's Souls when it came out, but sadly missed it, and have not played it yet. When Dark Souls was announced, I knew I have to play it. Even after watching countless videos on YouTube, I had no idea what to expect when I first started this game. I was honestly scared that I might not like it, but that fear quickly turned into countless hours spent to explore the world of Dark Souls, I found a game different to anything I have ever played before. Dark Souls is challenging, make no mistake about that. You need to be invested in the world to truly enjoy this game, and you'll want to read the strategy guide for tips, tricks and anything you can find to help you. What you find under that layer after you get invested is truly amazing, and will keep you invested even after you've completed the game. The combat system in Dark Souls is unique, like the game, it's both deep and challenging, yet rewarding and fun. It's the choice that matters here. You can choose to be quick and constantly moving character, dealing a lot of blows in a short period of time, or wield a heavy armour and weapon, and deal some serious damage in one or two hits. I can't even tell you about all of the aspects of combat, because I still haven't played a magic based character yet! Your enemies will never give you rest, and you're never powerful as you think you are. One mistake makes the difference between life and death, but don't let that beauty trick you, as you don't want to fall off a cliff! or miss that secret door. This game is filled with hidden doors and pathways. You'll often risk death to find out what's behind just over there, but when you'll find that awesome secret ring or set of armour, it'll make it so worth it! This game has so many unique and interesting aspects I haven't even touched, but rest assured, this game is a master piece. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

    Dark Souls

Dark Souls is an awesome game but sometimes, it can be really frustrating. It's totally rewarding when you succeed at something after spending 2 days trying to do it. The online multi-player has lots of elements to it. You can get online help, summon someone, or get summoned yourself and I think that is fantastic. The invasions are intense as well. You can be invaded at any time, or choose to invade other players, and steal their "souls" after defeating them. I really enjoy this game, especially when you acquire top-end items such as weapons or rings, or end up being an excellent caster. It depends what you want to achieve. I highly recommend this game to anybody looking for a challenge.

    Proceed with caution

Dark Souls is undoubtedly one of the best releases of 2011. Iterating on the developer From Software's previous game Demon's Souls, this spiritual successor improves on one of the most involving game experiences of all time. The world in Dark Souls is a bleak, hopeless, terrible fantasy landscape that also manages to be incredibly colourful and memorable in it's design. The art is mind-boggling, and every fantasy trope is either turned on it's head or created with such caring detail that they are likely to be the standard which every other fantasy world will be compared to. One of the strongest impression this game leaves you with is the constant threat of a sudden, gruesome death at the hands of everything from traps, hidden enemies or simply huge monsters able to crush a careless player in a single strike. However, while the game gets a bad rap for being difficult, the situations where you die unfairly are extremely rare. Being careful, looking at the environments and reading your enemy's movement pattern is crucial to stay alive, as a few strikes from even the most basic skeleton warrior will drain your life in moments. Invest yourself in this game, and you will have an experience unlike any other. Highly recommended.

    Frustrating yet ultra rewarding

Delving back into a From Software game, you cannot help but feel trepidation and elation. Dark Souls is just as brutal as Demon's Souls, but again the combat is just about perfect. With a slightly easier introductory section, Dark Souls is now more accessible for the masses, although you will still require patience and a high skill level to see the end credits. There is a reason why this game featured so highly on many of the Best of 2011 lists. Check it out!

Great game. That's the best way to describe it. Intese and with a great feeling of a true Action RPG. On this game every step count, rapidly you will feel the need to carefully walk in the dark... always fearing whats up ahead. Sure you are going to die a lot... really a lot. But every death is a learnig step and you feel that you must try again and again, until you finally kill the boss and you feel like you are the King of the World! Lots of weapons, armor, lot of stats to influence the every action and style of play. Great game, simple words for a great game.

An excellent game. I do not see this game as a sequel to Demon's Souls, I see it rather as a remake of Demon's Souls. Dark Souls is both one of the best and hardest games I've ever played. It takes time and patience to complete it, but it's very rewarding.
