Sleeping Dogs is a great game, with interesting game play. The game play revolves around close combat and a bit of parkour occasionally on driving sequences. Firearms are an optional. It falls a bit in driving sequences though. Once you get used to the driving it gets better. It's definitely worth buying.
Sleeping Dogs is hands down an excellent game. Regardless of whether you are more interested in driving, shooting, melee fighting or even character customising, the game provides it in abundance! First of all, the story itself is pretty captivating and it escalates with every new mission. In order to progress within the story, you have to drive several different vehicles (including motorcycles, sports cars and speedboats), beat up lots of guys and shoot up even more, but all this does not get repetitive and in many cases you find yourself neglecting the actual missions and getting caught in endless vehicle stealing, driving and sidequest searching. Overall, Sleeping Dogs is one of the year's best releases, and is a game that will appeal to almost every gamer's taste and will keep you in front of your screen for a long, long time.
Sleeping Dogs offers me all the things I missed whilst playing Just Cause 2. It has a compact world that's filled with dozens of interesting things to do, and its core battle mechanics hold much more finesse to them than JC2's rampant shooting. Though it is not perfect. In Sleeping Dogs, the combat feels unresponsive at times, and one of the bigger downsides I think is how the enemies become practically immune to your strikes when locked into their red-tinted, striking animation. It's because of this that you can't really go all-out with the combat system, since at any time they can break your sweet combos like this. You can mostly counter it with your counter button, but sometimes it doesn't register, especially if you're in the middle of a striking animation of your own. These issues don't break the system, but it is a downside. The plot is more or less interesting. You are a Chinese-born cop, who's spent his last 15 years in the States becoming an undercover cop there. Now you are tasked with finding hard evidence against the triads of Hong Kong. The voice acting and presentation, overall, is of better quality than in most games, although you don't quite get a totally authentic Chinese-feel. Sometimes it practically feels you're playing GTA in an American city with lots of Chinese gangsters in it. Still, take it as it is and it's good.
Well this game is like GTA IV with most of the bad aspects of the game improved. Driving is much easier and you can actually fire your weapon and drive at the same time, because you get in slow motion and you can enjoy these parts of the game (which were really hard/boring in GTA IV). The other thing is the hand to hand system which is way more fun and complex than GTA, it looks like batman's with counter and combos, really enjoyable. You can throw people in the trash, in fish tanks and in many other pieces of the scenery which is quite enjoyable. The story is good, more than 20 hours to finish the game, more than 30 if you want to go to 100%. You can also improve your character by 5 different ways : 2 kinds of objects to find and 3 xp bars (police/trade/general reputation). There are lots of thing to do in the open world city, you can explore the whole map when you want and find different items, events and even date some girls. I totally recommend it.
