    Description

SSX has returned, revamped and reinvented from the original of the beloved arcade franchise. A few familiar faces are back, the team of Zoe Payne, Moby, Psymon, Mac, Kaori and Elise banding together once more in this extreme snowboarding dream come true. This team's glory hungry mission this time around is that they want to be the first to descend the slopes of the most dangerous mountains in the world. As part of the team, it's you vs. mountain... good luck.

There are nine incredibly detailed, real life mountain ranges in this SSX, as opposed to the fictional ranges created in previous games. Through the use of NASA topographical satellite data, a Google Earth inspired interface has been born, with exaggerated versions of the Himalayas, Alps, Rockies, and more as part of the nine ranges; twenty seven mountains in total to explore and conquer. Each mountain face is a wide open terrain with multiple elevations and starting points, to which you are delivered by helicopter. This SSX has also introduced an innovative physics engine, which allows you to defy both the laws of reality and gravity as you race and trick your way through each level. Survival is equally as important as being the best snowboarder in this game, as you also have to battle against mother nature herself as she pits avalanches, freezing temperatures, white outs and more at you.

As you explore these vast terrains and the game itself, you will be able to take part in various fun elements; Race Drops, where you try to set the fastest time, Trick Drops, where you will try and score the most points, and Survival Drops, where you test yourself to descend the furthest down the mountain as you possibly can. A leaderboard keeps track of all of yours and your friends scores and times, even placing their ghosts when you play the same runs as they did, allowing you to see how well they performed. Upgrading the gear you possess definitely helps when it comes to being the best; you can improve your board and be able to ride faster, perform greater tricks, and maybe even survive the mountain for longer. You can also get your hands on wing suits, which enable you to glide for longer distances, and therefore allot you more time to perform tricks in. The tricks are mounted up in your Tricky meter, a combo system which gives you more points the more you can do in one trick, and the levels in this game are designed just to give you such opportunities.

An additional revolutionary feature of SSX is the River Net, a keenly developed recommendation Autolog engine that will help to guide players through the game. The River Net will allow you to “like” your favourite drops, as well as recommend new ones to you. Global Events is the main online section of the game, hosting the biggest and best social competitions that can hold up to 100, 000 participants. This allows the SSX universe to pit real players against each other in real time, with an event lasting from a single run to hours, and even up to days. When you place on the leaderboard that keeps track of the scores you will move up or down even when you're not playing the game, as it keeps itself up-to-date with both yours, and the world's progress. Its Tricky!

This is a long overdue game, a next gen tricky! It retains all of the great stuff that made it so popular when it was first released, big air, big tricks and crazy characters. There are some new editions equipment wise and you need certain things (ice picks/wingsuits) to access areas of the mountains. The game itself is massive with lots of drops, all over the world, the downside is it’s a steep learning curve - no real easy slopes to acclimatise. You can access almost any drop in explore straight away, its best to explore a little and get use to the controls before attempting the tour. The tour is well structured and you don't play as one character, you play as various characters within the SSX team with Zoe being your mentor and guide Personally I would have liked the inclusion of some of the old slopes and half pipes for nostalgia, but overall this is a fantastic edition to the brand.

    Brilliant return to the series.

SSX to me has been in my life for a few years. and with the return of the franchise with this newest entry i can safely say that this is the best yet. The graphics look realistic, the controls feel just like the the old SSX Games (which i was really hoping for) the story mode i have not yet completed but so far i really love it. This game to me I can guarantee anyone would like, Unless they don't tend to like snowboarding games. Some may complain that it doesn't capture the realism of snowboarding but that is what made SSX so popular, the fact that you can just grind down a rail on a cliff side pulling off some unbelievable tricks appeals to a lot of gamers as fun, So if you are looking for a fairly realistic game this is the one to get, If you are more on the side of everything needs to be real then look somewhere else. Overall this game to me is a 9/10 any day.

    Amazing game!!!!!....but short story

I was really looking forward to get this for a long time because of my childhood spent playing the epic earlier titles and guess what, this game does the others excellent justice and is a great follow on. The story mode is an exceedingly great introduction to the game and helps the player to get to know the new style of play and new features however for those who like the long time-consuming story modes it’s a bit short. but overall love the game, fast and smooth gameplay amazing graphics, and hyperbolic tricks just like SSX is meant to be.

Frustrated by surprise chasms you can't see coming and no 2 player option

I was really looking forward to the new SSX. Several new features have been included such as rewind and wingsuits, it looks great and play is fast. However overall it has been a rather frustrating experience progressing through the game. Some of the early levels are maddeningly difficult to master as you can't see very far ahead, so you are frequently surprised by chasms that you couldn't see coming. You therefore can't react in time to avoid falling to your death - this is where the rewind feature should come in handy, but if you're in a race it doesn't help. By contrast I have been finding some of the later levels way too easy, so the difficulty level is all over the place rather than building up through the game. The lack of a 2 player mode, which made previous SSXs such a great social game to play with friends and family, has gone which was a real surprise and a disappointment. Although I have been enjoying the game despite the comments above, had I known about the lack of 2 player before buying, that would have been a dealbreaker given how great a part that played in our enjoyment of previous SSXs.

    Oohh Santa SSX

SSX is so cool overall, because it brings you everything at the top level of quality. The graphics are like real-world images, the music blows me away all the time I'm playing, and new features and items like the Squirrel-suit open endless possibilities. To say I recommend SSX to you is an understatement. Click buy, now.
