Amazing

This Tomb Raider rebbot strips away any of the frustrations that may have been felt with the later entries in the series. Graphics, gameplay, and scripting have all be racheted up to create an absorbing and challenging campaign. This game lends itself more to Uncharted than pure puzzle solving, and the high octane action never lets up during the chunky campaign. Some of the the ways Lara meets her demise will have you squirming in your seat! Lara is instantly likeable as you follow her journey from vulnerable young lady, to highly skilled survival machine. The game never gets stale and the price that Zavvi offer the game at is fantastic value for money. I would recommend this game to anyone, as it is a superb way to spend a few hours.

Tomb Raider still doing the biz

Got this game recently at a really great price and good knows I have a keen eye for a bargain ! It turned out very well for me I must say . I really enjoyed this game . It's got all the slick action fighting and jumping you would expect from any Tomb Raider game and these more up to date graphics make it a very enjoyable experience for an old school gamer like myself ! Plenty of weapons to use and collect on the way and different difficulty levels to suit all ages and skill levels . Really good game I have tried it on all levels now and really enjoyed it big time ! 8/10 for me !! Highly recommended .Ken ..

Definitely worth the purchase price, I liked the graphics and the story line is interesting. They've kept some original bits like Lara climbing like a spider monkey, but incorporated with action moves. Really good, very happy thanks.

Excellent

Is true that, after her "first human killed", Lara evolves quickly to a efficient killer. Nonetheless, I bet the people complaining about it wouldn't had the patience to end the game if it would have been more realistic in the matter of skill growing. After all, this is no Skyrim, where from starting novice character to ending expert character several months of game time will have past. This is a single story, and anyone who played it knows that it would lose a lot of appeal if it were as lengthy as reality would require. If realism is your main priority, you be more happy by ignoring skills and weapon improvement and enjoy the story anyway. Gameplay is smooth and responsive, and character movement capture is nice, with different ways of walking depending on terrain (hard floor or over-the-knee water) and weather (rain, wind, none), and combat movements are nicely done too. There are some QTE but not as many as in Underworld, for instance, and the ones in this game are a lot better (if in doubt, try the game until you have to crawl your way out of a cavern) As other Tomb Raider games, you have secrets to discover but the story is linear enough to not get lost (btw, that avoids the risk of losing the cinematic pace of the game). The game feels like a movie and you get to empathize with the Lara character, less than a superhero than in other games but more of a human like you or me. The acting is really superb, and half an hour in the game I was wishing I had bought and played it sooner. If Elliot felt that empathetic and connected to Atreyu while reading Neverending Story, that'd be a good reference. As said, gameplay and combat are good, but the story is so powerfully told that it eclipses them. This is definitely a game to play as many times as you like to watch one of your favorite movies or read your favorite books.

Just shoot

All i will remember from this Tomb Raider is shortness, and massive killing spree from "juvenile" Lara who transforms from little girl to deadly killer in minutes. Its a bland tasting new age Tomb Raider for the masses.

This new Tomb Raider is great! It's completly different from the previous ones but it's a very good surprise! Survival horror, adventure, action, all of these criteria are included. The gameplay and the graphics are great from Square Enix (Final Fantasy etc.). The game is quite easy but if you want to finish it 100%... then good luck! I recommend it for every gamer who is looking for adventure and action!

Sublime game

Tomb Raider is amazing! It has gorgeous graphics, and an excellent and beautiful Lara Croft. The game play is definitely new in the game series, but in my opinion it is spot on! The bow "feels" amazing, and the way you use it is challenging. Puzzles are simple and you can complete the game 100% the first time you play it. I highly recommend it to every one, so just buy it and play it. You won't regret it!

Very enjoyable game.

I was looking for something to play after Bioshock Infinite and saw Tomb Raider at a bargain price on Zavvi, so I went for it. It's a very good game, with a few original ideas in the gameplay and the length of the game isn't too short like most single players these days. The addition of many collectibles gives the game replay value, particularly if you're an 'achievement hunter'. Also it has an online mode which I am yet to try, but there's another thing which adds to the lifespan of the game. I would recommend it.

Great game!

Tomb Raider is a great game with balanced mechanics and really careful visuals. Every scenario is beautifully detailed and presents dramatic and impressive set piece moments with an interesting level structure that manages to make the linear experience feel less oppressive than the norm. Shooting has the familiar trappings of a 3rd person game, but it adds some cinematographic twists here and there, ultimately being in equal parts rewarding and desperate.

I have played Tomb Raider since I was young and the first one made its debut, but game after game until the fourth one I lost interest in always repeating annoying puzzles and far-fetched storyline. After that, there was a long time that I didn't play any games at all, but this one brought me back to the franchise and back to gaming. Story: The story is great and not too far-fetched, although I - have played the first games and being a sci-fi / fantasy lover - think Lara's a bit too "slow" to not instantly come to obvious conclusions the player made long before her. I like the other characters from the Endurance with their quirks and intertwining story lines (supported by the diaries) very much. Everyone has his/her own story and, although I must admit many of them are cliches, all in all it fits together nicely. Sadly there are a few questions without an answer after playing the game but at least the player can guess what's going on. Gameplay: Normally I am not a fan of Shooter type games and usually I am too slow (reaction-wise) for them, but this one I found very enjoyable because the combat difficulty can be adjusted and you have enough time to aim, duck or run away even in melee fights. I especially liked the stealth killing features and made use of them wherever I could. There certainly is a lot of gore, blood and violence in combat and some levels but I think it's not too much and the appropriate amount. This game is very different from the previous ones because Lara - in spite of taking incredible amounts of damage - is finally more like a human being and not like a robot. The developers put much thought in showing her weaknesses and pain, put a focus on improvisation (e.g. the weapons, upgrades, many of the skills) and in doing this came much closer to creating a survivor like type gameplay and character. Content: I liked the physics-based puzzles very much although I must admit, after a certain progress in the game, you get a sense of how to get through and do many things automatically. I guess you can't make a game where everything is always new to the player but there certainly are a lot of repetitive actions. A few examples are torching everything that looks flammable, cracking the supply-crates open over and over, the mini games, pressing buttons in quick-action-cut scenes and so on. What I really liked when progressing further in the game is adding new items and possibilities one at a time. Combied with the "fast travel" feature there is much salvage to collect and there are many challenges to beat to keep the player occupied even after beating the game. There are many other activities the player can pursue to gain XP or scrap like hunting, exploring and - of course - raiding tombs. Personally I think there were too little and too small tombs but after all it's supposed to be the first stepping stone in her "career", so I'm ok with that. Conclusion: I really liked the Tomb Raider reboot and hope to see a sequel with the new style. Square Enix did a great job on this one, blew the dust off the franchise and made a great game. I definitely recommend this for gamers casual and upward. I had high hopes for this one and I'm not disappointed!

well worth the money

I had been disappointed with the previous iterations of Tomb Raider. Apart from a start with a little too many automated sequences I have really enjoyed this entry into the tomb raider universe. Tight controls, excellent visuals and a constant feeling of there being more to explore make this a really enjoyable game to work through. Levels are well constructed and although rather different to the normal tomb raiding platform the new styling may just have saved the series.

One of the best XBox Games I've played

The newly launched Tomb Raider is one of the best games I've ever played on the Xbox. I have already started the series with Tomb Raider 1 on my 100 MHz PC and was then thrilled. However, the series has quickly subsided and no longer interested me for years. That has now changed abruptly! There's no stupid jump from edge to edge, but an action-packed story, staged like a theater movie. I am thrilled and can recommend the game to anyone!

Tomb Raider 2013

Tomb Raider (the original from 1996) was one of those games I tested back in the day, but didn't quite draw me in. I haven't played any other Tomb Raider games, that is, until now. This new Tomb Raider drew me right in! The atmosphere, and attention to detail (and I can't stress enough how beautiful the game looks) are stunning to say the least. Game play mechanics are also very good and precise, as well as the shooting parts. The environments are great, very 'Indiana Jones-ish'. You really want to explore every nook and cranny. Story wise, it's also great, given that this is a original story of Lara Croft. She's younger, not as experienced etc, which makes for a more emotional, fragile Lara that you want to take care of. That was a major part why I loved her character so much in this game, her vulnerability and human qualities. I had so much fun with this game, it's one hell of a ride from start to finish. If you're into action/adventure games, I can not recommend this enough! It has so much replay value also, given that after you complete the game you can re-visit the island, gathering items you've missed in the first run.

Tomb Raider reinvented

When I first started playing this, I had reservations...big ones. This wasn't the Tomb Raider of old that I had played and spent so many hours exploring every little nook and cranny of each subterranean chamber. Pushing blocks to find a way to that ever elusive ledge that was always just too high to otherwise get to. The Tomb Raider where olden statues would suddenly burst into life the moment you passed them, making your heart beat faster for just a few moments before you entered into a ferocious battle which often you would have to restart several times over before you finally slayed the evil thing that had challenged you for daring to enter its domain having lain dorment for hundreds of years. And how I loved those moments where you would suddenly enter a huge cavern and almost gasp in awe at it's absolute beauty as the familiar Tomb Raider riff played and you then wondered what now lay in store for this next little episode. No dear reader.. my reservations were one of a slight disappointment. Not for the graphics, this is as beautiful a game as we would all expect in this day and age. More for the fact that after several minutes, I firstly came to realise that there are a lot of cut-sequences to sit through..and I do mean a lot, but secondly this was more Far Cry 3 and it just did not feel like Tomb Raider. Now don't get me wrong... I thought Far Cry 3 was an awesome game, but, thats not Tomb Raider, not by a long stretch. At first I thought, "My God! Lara, what have they done?". I very nearly could go no further. Shooting animals in the jungle and skinning them? Gangs of merceneries? Well do you know what? I got drawn in, more and more with every adventure, every cut-scene, which tells a very important story and neatly sews every part you have just played together into a very rich tapestry of storytelling. The gameplay is spot on..ok, I will admit sometimes a little frustrating in places, but stick with it and you will do it. People are quoting about 20 hours gameplay to complete. I took about 30 and finished with 100%, fulfilling every task and enjoying every second of it. I would give this 10 out of 10 and really did not want it to end. A gem of a game to have in any game collection...personally I can't wait for the next one.

Best adventure game

Tomb Raider is very entertaining and you'll never get bored. It is a game where you have to watch out for all objects and sites, this way you'll maximize the experience for Lara, to become stronger. The game features perfect maneuverability which helps you to not get dizzy, which enables you to continue to play without problems. The graphics of the game, aside from the textures of water, is the best thing you can get from the Xbox360/PS3. The multiplayer is fun if you play with friends, and entertaining by yourself. If you're intuitive you can set traps for enemies and eliminate them, which is a nice touch coming from a multiplayer game. A weak point of the game is the lack of variety of weapons and game modes, and low variety of traps, but this will be settled when the DLC is launched. In short it is a game that should be in every home and is worth the asking price.
