Pioneers Of Music
The English band formed in East London in 1975. The original line-up consisted of Steve Harris on bass, Paul Day on vocals, Dave Sullivan and Terry Rance on guitar, and Ron Matthews on drums.
However, since the band’s formation, they have had 23 different members across 13 different line-ups. Bruce Dickinson is the longest-serving vocalist for Iron Maiden, Paul Di’Anno recorded the band’s self-titled and Killers albums, and Blaze Bayley recorded The X Factor and Virtual XI albums. Steve Harris is the only member of Iron Maiden to have remained a member since their formation.
Regardless of the dramatic changes along the way, the band has released 39 albums and sold over 100 million copies of those albums worldwide. Some of their biggest albums include The Number Of The Beast (1982), Piece Of Mind (1983), Powerslave (1984), Live After Death (1985), Somewhere In Time (1986), and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988) — among many others. They have created some of the biggest songs in the genre, such as ‘The Number Of The Beast’, ‘The Trooper’, ‘Speed Of Light’, ‘Wasted Years’, ‘Run To The Hills’, and ‘Aces High’.
Iron Maiden is considered one of the most successful heavy-metal bands in history, performing over 2000 live shows throughout their career and winning a Grammy Award in 2011 and a BRIT award in 2009. The band are also well known for their mascot, ‘Eddie’, who has appeared on stage with them as well as on album covers and merchandise.
