A Pop-Culture Classic

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) is considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. Directed by world-famous director Steven Spielberg, the film stars Dee Wallace as Mary, Henry Thomas as Elliott, Peter Coyote as Keys, Robert MacNaughton as Michael, and Drew Barrymore as Gertie.

The film follows the story of a little alien who is stranded after his people hastily left Earth without him, fearing discovery by an approaching human task force. Fortunately, the extra-terrestrial is found by ten-year-old Elliott, a lonely boy whose parents have separated. Elliott, his older brother, Michael, and his sister, Gertie, befriend E.T. and help him return to his home planet, all while attempting to keep him hidden from the government.

Since its release, the film has had a profound impact on almost every aspect of pop culture, amassing millions of fans around the globe. In 1982, the smash-hit film surpassed Star Wars to become the highest-grossing release of all time. The film held this record up until the release of Jurassic Park in in 1993.
