An original story and a new companion
What if the Doctor arrived somewhere he'd visited before to find that his earlier influence, far from benefiting the local population, had resulted in catastrophe? What if the Doctor found that his face was recognised everywhere as that of 'the Evil One'? It's harder than usual for the Doctor (Tom Baker) to gain anyone's trust in this situation, but gradually he manages to win round one member of the Tribe of Sevateem, Leela (Louise Jameson), who is herself an outcast. Together they face the relentless folly of the tribe's leader and the machinations of its shaman, but when they escape they face technological menaces of a far more subtle and sinister kind in the schizoid Xoanon and its acolytes the Tesh. The Doctor must evade death constantly while struggling to understand and then undo the damage his previous visit brought to this divided world. A brilliantly conceived story conveyed in smart, witty dialogue and plenty of action make this release an excellent showcase for the fourth Doctor and for Leela's debut. Fascinating special features tell the stories behind the story and present Louise Jameson's own reflections on her uneasy working relationship with Tom Baker.
