Such a fun movie. Another classic script from Shane Black. It hits on all his favourite things, snappy dialogue, Christmas setting, and ballsy action.

The Long Kiss Goodnight
Director Renny Harlin and screenwriter Shane Black join forces with this explosive and witty action thriller The Long Kiss Goodnight, which showed that, after the critical failure of Cutthroat Island, the action-director of Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger had not yet lost his touch, and that the screenwriter of big-boys entertainment such as Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout was still at the top of his game. It remains a guess how Harlin's marriage with Geena Davis was at the time, but the director puts his then-wife through hell as an amnesiac teacher who is starting to find out about her forgotten past with the help of lowlife private investigator Samuel L. Jackson. The closer they get to the truth, the larger the army of bad guys and thugs get that try to wipe them off the face of the Earth. It's Lethal Weapon-meets-Bourne Identity when Davis gets her memory back, and starts to remember how to effectively dispatch her assailants. And she gets help from Jackson, the actor bred for delivering cool and hilarious one-liners, when things get tough. Leave it to Harlin to throw every stunt and vehicle at the screen, and leave it to Black for fuelling Davis and Jackson with every wisecrack that John McClane would be proud of. Together, they are indestructible and the viewer is in for one funny ride. Lately, not much of relevance has come out of Renny Harlin's hat, so we may have to consider Long Kiss Goodnight as his grand farewell to the big audience. Shane Black fortunately made a grand comeback with Iron Man 3, another movie hallmarked by a sharp wit and fast-paced action. Long Kiss Goodnight marks an excellent collaboration between two movie makers at a peak in their careers, and comes highly recommended for fans of Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout.
