7 (out of 10) DARK Days
This film is in the style of other shockingly dark French and foreign horror/revenge thrillers. A man's 8 year old daughter is raped and killed. He enters a severe state of depression and plots revenge when the killer is arrested live on TV. He abducts the guilty man from police transport and tortures him for, you guessed it - 7 DAYS. The torture is graphic, brutal and uneasing, but it is broken up and not mercilessly for shock sakes only. The shots are dark, arty, depressing and gloomy - capturing the mood and horrific content well. There is not much dialogue and the acting is of a good standard too. I would say that fans of films like Taken, and proper adult Horror films will admire this depressing if not deeply disturbing. Nothing new but what it does it does well. Think Misery meets Saw and Switchblade Romance, with faded colours and wide angle pan shots. 7 Days = how to torture a paedo rapist.
