At the centre is Mason (Ellar Coltrane), who with his sister Samantha, is taken on an emotional and transcendent journey through the years, from childhood to adulthood. Raised by a divorced couple (Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette ). The story follows the boy for twelve years, from first grade at age 6 through 12th grade at age 17-18, and examines his relationship with his parents and those around him as he grows.

Excellent!
This is a wonderful film. Quite low-key and thoughtful it's the story of a boy growing up. We visit him over several summers, and part of the pleasure of the film is seeing the actors (both children and parents) age with their characters. The performances are subtle, dramatic and feel very authentic. Nothing much happens (somebody grows up with parents who are separated - not that unusual), but there are shocks, laughs and moments of excruciating embarrassment. It is the work of real artists at the top of their game, and you will understand more about your own life, and the lives of your parents or children, after watching it.

Boyhood
This film contained some very talented acting, & directing, but I can't say that I particularly enjoyed it. I found it quite difficult to ascertain when his age increased, & by how much, so was generally, quite disappointed.
