THE FRANK SINATRA SHOW DVD: Frank Sinatra (1915 - 1998) was arguably the most important popular music figure of the 20th century. An icon to millions, and the first real teen idol, Sinatra demonstrated a remarkable ability to maintain his appeal and pursue his musical goals despite often countervailing trends. Sinatra came to the fore during the swing era of the 1930 s and 1940 s, scored his first number one hit in 1940 and was still making million-selling recordings in 1994. This DVD features two rare vintage episodes of The Frank Sinatra Show. The first was screened in 1950 with guest stars Stump and Stumpin. The second episode is taken from the 1957 series of the Frank Sinatra Show with guest stars Peggy Lee, Bob Hope and Kim Novak. (50 min) LITTLE BOOK OF CROONERS: The epithet crooner was originally an ironic term for male singers that were overly sentimental but now that some the greatest singers in the history of popular music are happy to be called crooners, it is seen as a great honour and tribute to their unique vocal talent. Legends that immediately spring to mind include Tony Bennett, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Sammy Davis Jr, Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis, Matt Monroe, Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams but they have recently been joined in the Parthenon of great crooners by such incredibly emotional modern singers as Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr and Julio Inglesias. This lavishly illustrated little book takes a look at the colourful careers of the greatest ever crooners and celebrates a singing style that is as fashionable today as it was when it was pioneered by Al Bowlly in the mid-1930s.
