Terry Fleming (Adam Butcher), a bright teenager living in the far reaches of Newfoundland, Canada, is shrouded in the devastation of a world at war. It’s 1945, and the tiny town of Gander serves as a stop-over for flights between North America and Europe in the final stages of WWII. When Terry’s mother Violet (Deidre Gillard-Rowlings) falls badly ill, he finds himself desperately torn between his dreams of working at Gander and the realities of her illness.
The 16 year-old gradually constructs a world of fantasy around the Gander air base, an illusion of showbiz, romance and glamour. Visions of movie stars, war espionage and even falling in love with the vivacious Laurie (Joanne Kelly, Mafia Doctor) help him cope with his imminent loss.
However, Terry will quickly have to choose between hiding in his imagination and confronting the hard truth. The world’s evils are unforgiving to boyhood daydreams.
Multi award-wining Gordon Pinsent directs this stunning fantasy-drama, also starring Peter MacNeill (A History of Violence).
