Series 1:
With a superb ensemble cast, this is a hilarious and heart-warming comedy from Jennifer Saunders, the writer and star of Absolutely Fabulous. The Women's Guild: its ideals are to promote truth, justice, tolerance and fellowship - or is it just an excuse for a good old gossip? Clatterford is a small town, but big enough to have a good cross section of people, local shops and a late night convenience store - a place which also has a thriving Women's Guild. When Sal's husband dies suddenly of a heart attack, she is forced to give up her role as practice nurse at the local surgery. Without a job and feeling very much alone, Sal slowly realises that she needs the support of the Women's Guild as much as they need her, so she decides to join them and give the Guild a try...
Series 2:
The ladies of the Clatterford Women's Guild are back for a second series of the acclaimed Jam & Jerusalem. Follow the continuing exploits of ex-practice nurse Sal Vine (Sue Johnston) and the memorable - and not a little eccentric - members of the local Guild in Jam & Jerusalem Series 2.
Written by BAFTA award-winner Jennifer Saunders, this entertaining series stars some of the best-loved names in British comedy including Dawn French, David Mitchell, Sally Phillips, Patrick Barlow, Maggie Steed and Sue Johnston. Set in a small West Country town, Jam & Jerusalem takes an affectionate look at village life and the empathy and togetherness found in a local community where everyone knows everyone's business.
A year after her husband's death, Sal is finding the anniversary hard to deal with, especially since the rest of her family seem to have forgotten all about it. So Sal organises a ramble for the whole Guild, seeing it as an opportunity to have a nice stroll and a chat with friends, however they soon find themselves lost in a fast-descending impenetrable fog.
The fierce rivalry between the Clatterford and the neighbouring Guild of Hole rears its ugly head again in a game of netball between the two guilds. The ‘grudge match’ is a disaster, but the ladies of Clatterford resolve to have their revenge the following week at a bowls match – if only they could find a way to use their secret weapon (Rosie), who has been banned for numerous instances of improper behaviour on the hallowed turf.
Complete with speed knitting contests, beer fuelled ‘re-enactment’ clashes and a magical fairy wedding; Series Two is the most enchanting instalment yet from this much loved comedy series!
Series 3:
Set in the small West Country village of Clatterford St. Mary, Jam & Jerusalem centres on community life and the comical misadventures of the members of a local Women’s Guild. Written by Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous, French & Saunders), this much-loved rural comedy stars some of the best-loved names in comedy including Sue Johnston (The Royle Family), Pauline McLynn (Father Ted), Dawn French (The Vicar of Dibley), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones' Diary) and David Mitchell (Peep Show).
Sal Vine continues to build her new life, after the death of her husband. Her daughter has moved out, but only as far as the old van that is parked next to the house. In this series, Sal fights to save a piece of Clatterford history, a barn being renovated at the back of her house and enlists the help of the Guild in an effort to stop the development. She enjoys their full support, until Rosie discovers from the project manager Jock (Clive Russell) that the barn will be occupied by none other than Charles Dance. How could the Guild stand in the way of such an illustrious neighbour?
Sal’s initially frosty relationship with Jock soon blossoms into something that could be love, while Kate and the Vicar also get closer and the Guild try desperately to get Charles Dance to be a guest speaker.
Eileen is organising the biennial Guild Fashion Show, but Rosie goes missing with one of the outfits, as does the Vicar, along with the keys to the church - with the essential fashion show props inside. Kate Bales heads to the moor to hunt for him, and finds rather more than she bargained for...
Spike and Tash are finally ready to travel the world in their converted mobile library, but a confusion with the gears leads to a call-out for the emergency services, and Sal's house ends up looking like a war zone.
Jam & Jerusalem Series 3, released on DVD from 2nd August 2010, takes an affectionate look at village life and the empathy and togetherness found in a local community where everyone knows everyone's business,
