LEWIS series 1-7
I am a long time admirer of the Inspector Morse TV series which are only bettered by the actual writings of Colin Dexter. Kevin Whatley's part as Lewis in the Morse series was somewhat different to the books and his growth to Detective Inspector in this series from lowly sergeant in Morse is barely imaginable. Long gone are the egg and chips he delighted in, and the recent widower now has some of the Inspector Morse characteristics, like an occasional twinkle in his eye, that John Thaw was so cherished for. Morse always credited Lewis with his uncanny intuition in helping solve so many of their cases and he still has this perception in the Lewis series. The University surroundings are the same, the suspense, the step by step detective work are equally brilliant and I rate this box set as highly as its origins. The Endeavour is different, while the result is every bit his equal.
