Not the Santa you remember!

A very good twist on the popular 'myth' of Santa Claus. This foreign language film was easy to watch and read the sub-titles. Parts of it are in spoken English. The characters are normal people (Sami hunters) in unusual circumstances and have to step up to save the day. An archaeological dig has apparently unearthed Father Christmas on the Russian-Finnish border, but this isn't the jolly Coca-cola red-suited Santa you are familiar with. If you are on his naughty-list he punishes you in a variety of unpleasant ways... There is some full-frontal male nudity. There are also some elves, but no red-nosed reindeer. And the final scene is darkly hilarious! There are a couple of great performances, the lead boy, Pietari (Onni Tommila) in particular was excellent. My only negative thought was that it could have been a darker, creepier, film. Otherwise a nice, occassionally humerous, mild horror (without the excesive 'splatter' of most modern horror films) with a Christmas theme.
