The Baron
I remember my parents watching 'The Baron' in black and white, when I was young. Being afflicted with nostalgia and an ardent fan of "Thunderbirds", "The Avengers", "Department S" and "The Champions", I decided to purchase this series to see what I had missed. This turned out not to have been as much as I had hoped. As I have often found, the actors employed during the 1960s, by and large, had mastered their craft. This holds true for the principals, Steve Forrest and Sue Lloyd. Their delivery of dialogue, to my ear, can rarely be faulted. The problem lies with the improbable storylines. Whilst there is no shortage of them in modern television, the camouflage is rather thin in retrospect: back-lot sets and a mild fascination with nascent technology. I would say that the Baron, through no fault of his own, displays not quite enough 1960s style over substance. Digest the other series I mention before finding time for this one.
