The Saint was one of my all-time favourite TV programs as a child growing up back in the sixties. I thought Roger Moore was brilliant as Simon Templar, the handsome, debonair playboy who first appeared in the Leslie Charteris Saint novels. Mr Templar had a rather nice car too, a vehicle so ideal for accommodating each gorgeous girl that co-starred in each of his episodes! This dvd boxed set of the colour series truly is EVERY Saint fan's dream. When I first saw it available for sale online - well, I was so excited that I just HAD to buy it!. And what a fantastic purchase it is too! It is the best boxed set of a TV show I have ever bought. This beautiful boxed set contains all 47 episodes of the complete colour series on seven dvds, including both the movies and the original two-part versions of VENDETTA FOR THE SAINT and THE FICTION MAKERS (never seen in this format since their original transmission). There are also some very interesting and entertaining special features: among them, the definitive hour-long documentary on the making of these episodes, including contributions from Sir Roger Moore himself, and other people who made THE SAINT one of the most popular programs on TV ever. When I used to watch this brilliant series as a kid all those years ago, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that one day I would actually own the whole series on DVD, to watch and enjoy again and again, whenever I want. Heaven! Oh yes, and just as I did way back in the 1960's, I still get an excited tingle down my spine each time the word "Simon Templar" is mentioned in the opening of each episode . . . and our hero looks up to see his customary halo responsively appearing over his head! The catchy theme music, coupled with the cartoon matchstick Saint character, enhances the image of this iconic crimebuster excellently. Magic.
