New York in the 1880s is the setting for this delightful musical comedy starring Deanna Durbin as an innocent young lass fresh off the boat from Ireland.
'Boss' Tweed (Vincent Price), a corrupt New York politician finds newly arrived immigrants like Timothy Moore (Albert Sharpe) and his daughter Rosie (Deanna Durbin) easy prey for his vote rigging schemes. However, when he thinks Rosie has accidentally overheard some of his nefarious plans, Tweed appoints her father as Superintendent of Central Park to assure his silence.
While she works in the park with her father, all the time dreaming of becoming a famous opera singer, Rosie meets a handsome young reporter (Dick Haymes). Together they discover that Tweed is up to no good at Central Park Zoo. He's embezzling money and eating the poor animals into the bargain! Now they must expose him but there's one little snag. Rosie thinks she just may have fallen in love with the scoundrel!
A wonderful period comedy full of fabulous costumes and luscious sets, UP IN CENTRAL PARK sees Deanna performing "Oh Say Can You See", "Carousel in the Park" and "Pace, Pace Mio Dio".
