Batman: Arkham Origins & Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate
Batman: Arkham Origins was announced earlier today, and is set to act as an origin story of a young Batman, and also as a prequel to the two previously released games Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Arkham Origins will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii U. Arkham Origins Blackgate will be available for the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS handhelds.
No word as of yet whether the game will be available on Sony’s or Microsoft’s next generation consoles.
Although the previous games were developed by Rocksteady, Arkham Origins is being developed by WB Games Montréal (who previously did the Wii U port of Arkham City), and are apparently doing so with input and influence by Rocksteady in order to keep the Batman series feeling consistent.
Arkham Origins is home to an expanded Gotham City, said to be double the size of the Gotham found in Arkham City. Featuring a prequel storyline set years before the events of City and Asylum, Origins follows a younger, less-experienced Batman as he starts out his career as a crime fighter, an annoyance to the police and on his path to becoming the Dark Knight.
Arkham Origins Blackgate is the first Batman: Arkham game to come to either Nintendo’s or Sony’s handheld systems, and is a 2.5-D game set to play as a companion to the console Batman: Arkham Origins. Blackgate is a game where players can further explore and continue the storyline of the console version, along with uncover more details of Batman’s past.
