Who has the chance to watch all of the nominations for the oscars? Well, me, I’ve spent time and money going to see these films and making notes on whose starring in what and I’ve also read lots about who the industry thinks will take the coveted ‘Best Film’ award for 2014. The front-runners for the award have been Gravity, 12 Years a Slave and The Wolf Of Wall Street. It was always going to be a hard decision choosing this years winner with such stiff competition. I think it’s safe to say that 2013/14 will be remembered for years to come if for no other reason than the quality of the nominations. Without further ado, our winners are below.

The red carpet event started at 11.30pm (UK) this evening and we can see a myriad of stars from all over. It can be viewed over on SKY which has dedicated an entire channel to the event. It’ll be hard to miss anything with quality coverage like this.


The awards ceremony itself is hosted by popular stand-up comedian Ellen DeGeneres. Below is a quick round-up of some of the more popular awards.

The winner of the Best Film Award is 12 Years A Slave.

  • The nominations were American Hustle, Nebraska, Captain Phillips, Philomena, Dallas Buyers Club, 12 Years a Slave, Gravity, The Wolf Of Wall Street and Her.
  • The winner of the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role is Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club.

  • The nominations included Christian Bale, Bruce Dern, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Matthew McConaughey.
  • The winner of the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role is Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine.

  • The nominations were Amy Adams, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock.
  • The winner of the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role is Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club.

  • The nominations are Barkhad Abdi, Bradley Cooper, Michael Fassbender, Jonah Hill and Jared Leto.
  • The winner of the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role is Lupita Nyong’o.

  • The nominees include Sally Hawkins, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence, June Squibb and Lupita Nyong’o.
