That’s right, the hype levels for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie have gone through the roof here at Zavvi, what with the new trailer crash-landing like an Empire Star Destoyer onto the web last night.
Crashed Star Destroyer on Jakku
Even within the opening panning shot, we are introduced to a new world (this is not tatooine!). Though J. J. Abrams has not given up much information about the planet, we do know it’s called Jakku and that scenes for it were shot in the deserts of Abu Dhabi.
Poe Demeron in his X-Wing
The trailer further hinted at Oscar Isaac’s role as Poe Demeron, and his potential to carry the baton from Han Solo in the ‘ridiculously good pilot’ stakes. Isaac’s has said that “He’s the best frickin’ pilot in the galaxy. He’s been sent on a mission by a certain princess, and he ends up coming across John Boyega’s character, and their fates are forever intertwined.”
Kylo Ren & The Storm Troopers!
The story of Episode VII is not yet known, but it will not be based on Star Wars Legends, formerly known as the Expanded Universe. Rather, it will be an original story set after Return of the Jedi. The film stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker reprising their original roles. The original actors are joined by a host of new actors including John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Adam Driver, amongst many others.
Captain Phasma & A Live-Action Robot
There’s already much fan speculation over the identity of the above ‘Chrome Trooper’ with fans on reddit proposing that it is an ‘Inquisitor’, though the most likely theory is that it will be the character played by Gwendoline Christie (of Game of Thrones fame), Captain Phasma, the commanding officer to Jason Boyega’s character, Finn.
Abrams has also confirmed that the cute roller-robot seen in the first trailer, will not be computer generated. “There were a lot of discussions about how having a CG BB8 would be so much easier for shooting,” said Abrams. “But we also knew it would be better for the film, for the actors, for the sets, for the look of it if it were performed.”
It’s been more than 30 years since Harrison Ford was last in Star Wars movie (1983’s Return of the Jedi), but the 72 year old is back, reprising his role as Han Solo and teaming back up with old compadre Chewie to round off the trailer and leave us all desperate for Christmas, already!
