Kicking off in true style, we marked the re-launch of zavvi.com last Wednesday with a very special party. Attended by the elite of London’s musical talent and fashionistas, folks gathered from near and far to enjoy a great night out with us at the infamous Dome in Tufnell Park. We wanted to put on a good show so we called upon electro rock duo The Big Pink to provide the tunes and celebrate the release of their must have debut album A Brief History Of Love.
After a haze of guitar rumble, strobe lights and stage smoke, the boys took to the stage and raised the roof launching into the opening chords of Too Young To Love. Not long ago NME wrote about them ‘These guys have got a soul and they’re not afraid to bare it’ and boy were they were right! The band went on to entertain us all with a dazzling set, showing just why they’ve recently been chosen to support the mighty Muse on tour.
The finale was Dominos (you know, that tune from the X Box advert!) and as Robbie Furze’s powerful vocals filled the room singing “These girls fall like Dominos”, most of them did just that… at his feet, including Kate Moss who was right at the front for the set. Even fellow musicians Jamie Hince, Lily Allen, Jack Penate, The Rakes, The Beggars, Marlon Richards (son of Keith), and Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie were all happy to take a back stage while The Big Pink did their thing.
But it wasn’t just the musicians who fell under The Big Pink’s spell. Amongst the crowd were stylist Katie England, designer Pam Hogg, artist Jake Chapman and his model wife Rosemary Ferguson, who all gave their nod of approval.
The night continued and the drinks flowed until the early hours of the morning while our guest DJ provided the beats. Many thanks to everyone for braving the wind and rain, and celebrating with us on a school night – we hope you had as much fun as we did.
