Gamescom has begun and yesterday Microsoft showcased a mixture of exciting gameplay, as well as some spectacular new hardware bundles that will be available to fans later this year. Check out our roundup of some of the biggest announcements, surprises, and games to look forward to!
The aim for Quantum Break is to blur the lines between cinematic action and gameplay, so the two integrate seamlessly to give gamers a new, unique experience. It was anticipated to be a big focus as we still hadn’t seen any gameplay demonstrating the time-amplified action. However, these expectations were met by the presentation of a world premier gameplay demo from Remedy, shown below.
The hunt was on when the multiplayer based game Evolve took to the stage. Watch parts of a match played on the detailed battleground map ‘Distillery’, where hunters and monsters both fight each other, the constantly evolving Kraken, plus even the environment with snow storms that can randomly spawn and hostile wildlife.
The news that the next title in the Lara Croft series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, will be an Xbox One exclusive was one of the biggest shocks Microsoft delivered. Crystal Dynamics have explained the reasoning behind this decision, but the hope is very much that the announcement “is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming”. However, Darrell Gallagher from the studio helped settle fans who own other platforms by pointing out a release that will be available on PlayStation and PC, named Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.
We had a glimpse of Fable Legends from a new trailer, which demonstrated both of the playable options you can select from. Will you pick the Villain, able to cause as much maleficent mischief as you desire? (More than just kicking chickens!) If so, you’ll have the ability to set traps, control creatures to execute your evil choices and fight against Albion’s heroes. Or, if being the saviour interests you, of course you will have the option to play as one of the many skilled heroes while accompanied by three other companions. You can already register for the multiplayer beta here http://www.fablelegends.com/ with the first wave of invites beginning October 16th.
Forza Horizon 2
For the first time in gaming history, Rolls-Royce cars will arrive exclusively to drive in Forza Horizon 2. Not only this, but the all-electric FIA Formula E Renault Spark will be driveable too! In the video below, some of the designers and developers talk you through features this game will have to offer. From the open world exploration, to the more co-operative racing challenges… “The road trip of your life begins.”
343 gave us plenty of information about what will be arriving for Halo fans, like the Halo Channel that will launch this autumn as the go to destination for all Halo content. There was also a multiplayer beta first look of Halo 5: Guardians, with the full beta taking place from December 29th to January 18th.
For hardware, three new bundles were revealed. One of which, was a Call of Duty Branded 1TB Xbox One to be released November 3rd. There was also a standard Fifa 15 and Xbox One pack, but the big unveiling was the white special edition Xbox One bundle that will include Sunset Overdrive at an ERP of £349.99.
