Liverpool’s Finest
Formed in Liverpool, the Beatles are one of the most influential bands of all time, having become the best-selling music act in history. The English group — composed of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr — can be credited with ushering in the rise of rock and roll during the 1960s.
They began playing small clubs and gigs in their hometown, but they quickly rocketed to stardom when they recorded ‘Love Me Do’ in 1962, which was their first certified hit. Following on from this, they created more and more hit songs, such as ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and ‘Help!’. Their music style was unlike any other artists’ at the time, combining elements of classical music, traditional pop, Indian music, and hard rock.
Over the course of their career, they recorded a total of 13 albums, including Rubber Soul (1965), Revolver (1966), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), The Beatles (1968), and Abbey Road (1969). To this day, they hold the record for most number-one albums on the UK Albums Chart.
In addition to their recorded material, the band also gave some incredible performances during their time. Some of their most memorable performances were the iconic Apple Rooftop in London in 1969, the Washington Coliseum in 1964, Empire Theatre in Liverpool in 1963, and the Palais de Sports in Paris in 1965.
These international stars also achieved success in their solo careers, all four of the band’s members having created music of their own after their split in 1970. For their contributions to music, they have each been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
