The art of Art
Had this for a couple of years on blu ray and dvd before that. Watch the blu ray on 120" projection screen, you can not imagine how technically proficient this production is. To look at it is often astonishing, enhanced by time since its shots of many places have been obliterated by the onslaught of the automobile. Made in 1969. Each time I watch I glean something I had not considered before. The aristocrat with a human appreciation of that word 'civilisation.' The only absentee of real note is the Monalisa, maybe permissions to film back then were the problem. Clarke's insight into how art has changed, how its perspectives, its focus have developed does provide a detailed overview of human expression through the ages. Intelligent, not patronising. Words, Pictures, Sculpture, Buildings. And things.
