Great russian story made into a good movie.

Like many of the books I've read, I saw the movie first. I loved the movies, read the books and loved those, but still thoroughly enjoy the movies for what they are. There are Others, powerful humans of seers, vampires, shape changers, and so on that exist within the world. In ancient times, the different sides of "light" and "dark" come to realise that they are equally powerful, and as such form a truce. The day belongs to the powers of light, the night to the dark. This truce is enforced by the Day Watch (dark others), and the Night Watch (light others). The movie takes place in modern Moscow, with the both sides looking for a "Great Other", an Other foretold by a prophecy that will break the truce, and enable victory to whichever side they choose. The storyline focuses on Anton, a Light Other and member of the Night Watch. The two movies work well together, with the sequel being a true continuation of the story. It's difficult to pigeon hole this movie, but if you're a fan of anything related to sci fi, zombie, and fantasy movies, you'll appreciate this movie. It's closer to Interview with the Vampire than it is to Blade, in the sense that it's story driven, but it's still got some great action points. Overall it does have some flaws here and there, but don't let that stop you. Night Watch and Day Watch remain some of my favorite movies.

Great Buy. Does have normal English subtitles.

Decided to buy this box set even after reading all the reviews about it only having the English subtitles for the hearing impaired and ruining it but figured I'd just live with it. My blu-ray player found and played normal subs with no problem, so they are on there. Also found the hearing impaired version and a 3rd English sub that I didn't look at, so it turns out this was a great buy.

Daywatch / Nightwatch

Having previously caught the Night Watch and Day Watch movies on their original DVD release I was really looking forward to getting hold of the Blu Ray editions. Blu Ray pack comes with 2 discs and is similar to the original release with one major (for me) exception. The Night Watch DVD included the Theatrical version of the subtitles, which were not the run of the mill static sub titles. I wasnt able to find this feature on the Blu Ray. Both films look great and are an interesting mix of good versus evils battle, Strong audio and visuals that stand up well to Hollywood films. If you enjoy foreign films like "Brotherhood of the Wolf" and are prepared to give them a chance then seek out this double pack.

Exellent films for an excellent price

The Night Watch and Day Watch are both really unique Russian films. The story is very original and quite fascinating as it can take a great deal of concentration to follow it at moments, although that is something I don't mind when watching a film. There is a brilliant atmosphere that the blu ray enhances and the sound has a lot of depth. I only recently found the zavvi website and found a great deal of it is cheaper than some other places, it being the cheapest place I could find to buy the night watch/day watch blu rays. One thing that isn't great is the subtitles are english for the hearing impaired so often the sound effects are annotated on the screen aswell but after a while its easy to ignore them. If you like films which are different and visually stunning then I would definaltey recommend this.
