M-arvelous

Superb edition. There's a booklet, 2 commentaries - in English, and even a rare English edition of the film with a different ending!

A Classic Film Reborn

I first caught this film on broadcast TV decades ago when the available shortened version was covered in scratches, blurry and had a soundtrack that was so distorted it made me think that the TV was on the blink, and I was still blown away by Peter Lorre's portrayal of a tormented killer. This restored version takes the experience one step further and is a great reminder that good cinema is ageless. Being able to see 'M' in it's original condition takes the film out of the realm of cinema snobs and students of film history, the story is darkly compelling, the acting is brilliant, the editing paces the film perfectly and the cinematography is still ahead of films being made today; you quickly forget that you are watching an 88 year old film. Seeing the English language version is interesting only in that you witness Peter Lorre's first English performance but the editing butchers the most important and emotional scene in the film - stick with the German language version even if you don't like subtitles it is by far the superior version. Seriously, if you've never seen a Fritz Lang film before, this is the one to check out - find out waht you've been missing all this time.

M - Dual Format

M does not feel like a film from 1931. A pre-cursor to noir cinema Lang thrills his audience like no other in one of the early sound movies. A classic film in every sense and a must have in this stunning remastered blu ray.

M (Masters of Cinema Blu-ray)

Love these Masters of Cinema releases. Too bad they don't have as wide a catalogue as Criterion, but what they have, is quite worth buying, and collecting. "M" is also one of the best films they have, but I do get the urge not to stop with this one and buy films that I just like or haven't seen, just because of the supplement materials, design of the cases and overall quality. Could get addicted with this stuff.
