Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and-if he has his way-every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop... except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart.

One of the greatest films of all time, it is a must buy
I can't see why this film was torn apart by the critics it had everything a good gangster flick needs. It is extremely violent it has a good storyline and the acting is superb. Anyone who advises this film is not worth a watch definetly does not know what they are talking about!
This was an excellent movie, well paced and the acting was superb. Stella performance from Sean penn something you would come to expect but you sensed the evil from him. Emma stone didn't really add much and her affair with Ryan gosling seemed a bit flat but the rest of the cast and film made up for that minor flaw. Lets not forget josh brolin who tore it up and the beatings were so believable. Great film
