there's *#~@s in them thar hills
This blu ray version of a 1970s film is very well up-scaled to high definition and the story is very well rounded and interesting The characters are very defined and the film captures the spirit of the times , unfortunately not for the better , with greed and apartheid being very prominent . Roger Moore plays his part with very accomplished acting and is very believable as the mine manager who cares for his men and although not afraid to push boundaries, shows human flaws and a lack of confidence in his own methods not seen in his other roles . He does however still have "it " where the ladies are concerned . A very enjoyable and engaging film that has an air of nostalgia about it . This version , it seems is quite pricey but snapped it up on one of the offers and was well worthwhile.

Striking Gold!
I first saw the film "Gold" in a cinema double bill back in 1976 with "Diamonds are Forever". I thought both films were brilliant but I always remembered "Gold". Roger Moore gives a great performance as the manager of a gold mine faced with intrigue to manipulate stock and share prices. Filmed at a real gold mine, there is one particularly stunning shot of the lift shaft descending into darkness that lasts for about one and a half minutes as the small square of blue daylight about the lift shaft recedes into the distance. Featuring the great Simon Sabela - a Zulu actor who was the dance leader in Zulu and the King of the Zulus in Zulu Dawn - playing a great supporting role as a miner the film has some incredible actions sequences, particularly when the mine floods. Well worth a revisit if you've seen it before and certainly worth a look if you love Roger Moore, I highly recommend "Gold" - based on the novel Goldmine by Wilbur Smith. There is an excellent all star supporting cast and this Blu-ray copy is an excellent transfer and well worth the money. Buy it now!
