When a crew of foreign workers is massacred by an Islamic fundamentalist group, fear sweeps though the region. The army offers them protection, but the monks refuse. Should they leave? Despite the growing menace in their midst, they slowly realize that they have no choice but to stay... come what may.
This film is loosely based on the life of the Cistercian monks of Tibhirine in Algeria, from 1993 until their kidnapping in 1996.

Of Gods and Men
This film has excellent casting and acting and being based on real events increases the emotional impact of the events it portrays. Tension builds throughout the film which is gripping and at times incredibly moving. Filmed in a stunning mountain landscape it deals with a certain period in recent modern history with which perhaps not many people are familiar. It shows how people who consider themselves to be quite ordinary can make extraordinary choices in their lives. The extras on the blu-ray add to the understanding of what had has already been seen. I have no hesitation in recommending everyone to see this film.
