The Tube Dvd Review
This is quite simply a wonderful DVD set. Not only has the spirit of channel 4's then cutting edge music show been captured perfectly, the very essence of the 1980's has as well. If like me you were a teenager around the early 80's and remember going to nightclubs, watching this is like stepping into a time machine and whisking yourself back to your youth. How great it is to see all the bright coloured clothes, crazy haircuts, white ankle socks and lashings of make up again! As well as lots of exceptional music, there are many interesting and lighthearted interviews with the stars from the era as well. Paula Yates's interview with Sting is particularly amusing and poor Paula simply sizzles with sexiness! While a few of the musical performances on here are mimed, a lot are genuine live versions and this alone makes this collection an essential purchase for collectors. Fans of Alison Moyet in particular will love this DVD as it includes her singing a dynamite duet with Eric Burden of the Animals classic 'House Of The Rising Sun' accompanied by Jools Holland, a performance of 'Don't Go' by Yazoo and a performance of one of her solo tracks 'God Bless The Child'. Also featured on this great collection are 'Depeche Mode','Visage' (and an interview with Steve Strange), 'The Gap Band', 'Shalamar' (cracking live version of 'A Night To Remember' (one of the tracks that so defines the 80's), 'Paul Young' and 'Twisted Sister'. In fact, almost anyone who was anyone in the 80's is on this DVD somewhere and nearly ever style of music is catered for. So go on, fall in love with both the tragic Paula Yates and 'Altered Images' Clare Grogan (who puts in an incredibly sexy performance singing 'Another Lost Look' here) all over again and treat yourself to a trip down memory lane. With a running time of nearly 6 hours, if you have or had any interest whatsover in the music, the personalities and the culture of the 1980's you simply MUST buy this.ENJOY!
