Blue Justice

Created by the Japanese entertainment company SEGA, Sonic The Hedgehog is best known as a series of video games that follows its titular character, an anthropomorphic hedgehog with the ability to run at extraordinarily fast speeds. This unique power allows him to overcome environmental obstructions and tackle enemies of all types, his main aim being to collect gold coins and defeat his nemesis, Doctor Eggman.

The first entry in the franchise debuted in 1991, available exclusively on the SEGA Genesis console. Setting the foundations for future instalments, the game pits its hero against Dr. Robotnik, who is hunting for the six Chaos Emeralds and has captured the animal residents of South Island. To put a stop to his enemy’s machinations, Sonic attempts to free his compatriots and collect all the gems. This story is presented in the form of a 2D side-scroller, wherein players navigate a variety of hazardous levels populated by robots and traps, attempting to overcome these challenges without losing any of their three lives.

Beyond the scope of the games, the franchise has been adapted to live-action film, the first instalment having been released in 2020. Retaining the core elements of the source material, the plot sends Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) to Earth, where he meets Tom Wachowski (James Marsden), the local sheriff of Green Hills, Montana. Reluctantly, Wachowski helps his new companion escape from Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who seeks to harness the energy produced by Sonic’s quills, and the pair embark on a road trip.
