Starting at Green Hill Zone players begin their adventure racing around the giant loop, jumping over crumbling cliffs and avoiding dreaded spikes. Coming to the end of the zone players must battle against the famous Dr. Robotnik and his swinging checker ball, hitting him eight times before he is destroyed and moving onto the next zone; Marble Zone.
