The World's Greatest Superheroes

Originally known as National Allied Publications, DC Comics was founded by Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1934. Some of the company’s original writers include Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Gardner Fox.

DC Comics released their first comic in 1935, a comic book titled New Fun: The Big Comic Magazine — which was later known as More Fun. The popular DC Comics character Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (cover dated May 1939). The Dark Knight proved to be so popular that he received his own solo series, following his many crime-fighting escapades in Gotham City.
