Long Live Rock

Formed in 1964, The Who is a British rock group that shaped rock and roll during the ‘60s and ‘70s. They have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, achieving global success and captivating a massive audience.

Originally, the band’s line-up included lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist and singer Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. They struggled with occasional in-fighting; however, this didn’t stop them from creating some of the greatest tracks of all time. Some of their biggest singles include ‘Pinball Wizard’, ‘I Can See For Miles’, ‘I Can't Explain’, ‘My Generation’, ‘Substitute’, and ‘Happy Jack’.

The Who have performed many of these songs during their sensational live performances: the Super Bowl halftime show in 2010, the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games, Live Aid in 1985, a 25th anniversary tour in 1989, and a tour of Quadrophenia in 1996–1997 — amongst other shows.

Influenced by the pop art and mod movements, The Who have inspired many other bands since. They helped the development of the Marshall stack and revolutionised music with the use of the synthesizer, Townshend’s power chord guitar technique, and pioneering of rock opera. In 1990, their extraordinary talent was recognised, as they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
