Book 'em Danno!

The original Danny 'Danno' Williams was a serious sort of bloke who did his job and we as viewers rarely saw anything other than professionalism. The caricature version in the reboot of the show is frankly annoying and unnecessary. His constant banter and whining reminds me of a male version of Ena Sharples in the wrong place at the wrong time. The new McGarrett however is ALL action and ALL 'very clever', so much so that the show has developed not as a pastiche tribute to the original, but as a taut and entertaining original drama. This third season (Danno apart) just piles on the action from moment to moment, episode to episode with some clever long-running plot arcs that capture your attention and keeps it glued to the screen until you finish the whole boxset. As a spin-off from NCIS Los Angeles (which spun off from NCIS) this was probably the ONLY show the producers could reboot as Hawaiian based (Maybe they could have rebooted Hawaiian Eye from the 50's but it probably would not have worked. So put this boxset in your library and save up your pennies for season 4. You will not be disappointed.

Funny and entertaining

Hawaii Five O's season three continues from the cliffhanger of previous season - Lt. Cmdr Steve McGarrett's mother Doris (Christine Lahti) is not dead! It's not a surprise that the woman is Action Mum. Lt. Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth) has a bigger role now that the actress' name is on the opening credits. In episode 15 the new series homage the old series by remaking Hookman (the both episodes are on the box). Series is very action-packed - the number of episodes involving helicopters is alarming. In episode 10, one of my favourites, Steve shows his softer side as he teachs his colleague's daughter Grace and her friends some survival skills - which doesn't end so well... All in all, it's fun to watch.
